I'll take it a step further. If you live in a major metro area, try Pyrat Rum. It's excellent barrel aged rum. Even the cheapest level is good enough to drink neat in a snifter, and it's still cheap enough (around $30) to use in Egg Nog.

Seconding OCBW, though, any dark rum is a great choice. Good (no E&J) Brandy is also a classic.

Good call. Got to liquor store last night, they had 1 bottle of Pyrats left and plenty Morgan's private stock. Sipping on a nice 60/40 eggnog mix right now. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Definitely make your own as the store bought mixes are crap.

Eggnog is best with Bourbon & Rum...2 parts bourbon 1 part Rum...add eggnog to fit your preference.

What Rum you ask?

I would imagine... as etymologically "rumnog" is Rum and Rum.

Actually more like "rum in a small cup" or "rum & ale".

Now a Rumgrog on the other hand...
