Best cheese for Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Anybody not picking American should leave the country now! Go to Monterey, or Gouda, or Switzerland, or Muensterville, or any other place that they make cheese that isn't in America.

Buttered bread with cheese in the skillet is the way to go... however I have an ex-girlfriend that would toast bread, put cheese inbetween the bread, and zap it in the microwave... wasn't bad, however not near as good as the "proper" way to cook it

But in my house, its not what I like, its what my mom buys and thats American. She has that thing with food, where if she doesn't like it, you won't see it in the house.

Dill havarti is my favorite. We make grilled cheese with it quite often. Throw some spinach and portabella in there, and it's a yummy panini.

Butter the Bread and sprinkle some Garlic Salt on them. Then throw some American cheese or some Good Wisconsin Sharp Cheddar. Man that's a good sandwich. Dammit, now I'm hungry.

Speaking of grilled cheese...does anyone here put other things besides cheese on the sandwich?

The first time my wife made a grilled cheese sandwich for me, I bit into it and there was slices of pickel in it. I was ticked that she ruined it, but she thinks it is a necessity. Where do people learn things like this.
