Besides Michigan. . . .

michiggg of course

Then there's Wisconsin. A heart attack during the 1984 Wisconsin game killed my grandfather. If I rubbed a scarlet & gray lamp and a Buckeye Headed Genie came out of it and told me that I could choose one team that the Bucks would never lose to in my lifetime, my choice would be Wisconsin. Their arrogance of late, not to mention the criminal behavior of an astonishingly high percentage of their fanbase make this easy.

Speaking of arrogance, is there a fanbase in the world that is more arrogant than Penn State's? They are one-year removed from a 4 year train wreck; and now their program is God's gift to college football? Please. Nice to see you. Where you been the last 5 years?

Then there's FSU. I'm going to try not to get started here, because I wouldn't stop. Let me just say that the only way to appreciate hatred for the Criminoles is to live in Tallanasty. These people are without question the stupidest, most ignorant and most biased football fans I have ever met.

I have yet to have an argument with any of them (pearls before swine and all that). I just take in what they say and smile and nod. None have yet been intelligent enough to know they were being patronized.

1. TSUN (I avoid saying the name of the state)
2. Notre Dame

Those 2 are in a class by themselves. My daughter is now applying for colleges. She was told that she can go to any school she wants, but if she goes to either of those two, she's paying for the whole thing herself. And she knows I'm serious about that.

3. USC (the love-fest has moved them up)
4. Miami
5. scUM St.
6. Wisconsin
7. Tennessee
8. FSU

Teams that I really have no problem with:

Penn St.
Texas
Iowa
Purdue (Holy Buckeye kept them off the other list)
LSU
Georgia
Florida (since Spurrier left)
Auburn
Alabama

Just curious about the age of posters on this question. Having
seen USC beat OSU in the Rose Bowl, twice, in the seventies,
on their home field, all before I was twenty, I think the wound
of those experiences lodged deep. They tap into childhood
fears about the inferiority of the Midwest, the bicoastal elitism
of the media, and the inherent inequity of the system (a system,
it must be said, that gives Ohio State an edge relative to schools
like Michigan State and Wisconsin). Are those guys better
than us? Why do they get to play on their home fields?
Why does Notre Dame get its own network? Adulthood
hasn't dispelled all those concerns and questions,
just as maturation hasn't let me outgrown my belief in Ohio
State football.
