Bernie Kosar (official thread)

Kevin Warren is an ass
Very interesting article on Bernie Kosar and what he has done with his life since his playing days ended. The good and the bad.
In second half of his life, former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar begins a comeback: Terry Pluto

Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer

About a year ago, Bernie Kosar quietly made a call to Baltimore.

"I needed to see Art," the former Cleveland Browns quarterback said. He meant Art Modell, the former owner of the Browns who moved the franchise to Baltimore after the 1995 season.

"We hadn't talked since I was cut [by the Browns in 1993]," Kosar said. "I heard that Art was in a wheelchair and not doing well. I know that Art thinks he can't come back [to Cleveland], so I went to Art."

All Kosar ever did was make Modell a lot of money from 1985 to '93, when Kosar quarterbacked the Browns. To this day, Browns fans are stunned then-coach Bill Belichick cut Kosar in the middle of the 1993 season. Belichick believed Vinny Testaverde was ready to be the Browns starter. But Testaverde was out with a shoulder separation when Belichick made the poorly timed, incredibly unpopular decision.

While its funny to joke about Bernie tipping the booze during games, its really not like he's drunk. The man had some serious concussions - my father was telling me about some of the hits he had seen before I can remember. Its obvious too when you listen to his comments during games.

That said, Kosar is, was and always will be the fucking man. Forever an icon and always welcomed in Cleveland. He had a side-arm throw, was slow as hell and took huge hits, but he was an insanely smart QB and that allowed him to be successful here. I just hope those day's come back sometime before I die.

He is right about Modell though - that man could be clinging to life in a wheelchair and if you dropped him off anywhere between the IB-HWY or Detriot Ave the man wouldn't last 20 minutes before somebody got their hands on him. Sadly I'm not joking.

What would his chances be if Lebron was handcuffed to the wheelchair when you dropped him off? Sounds like a plot of the next Saw film to me.

Sadly? It makes me chuckle.

Sadly? he man is a filthy, greedy, lying, piece of shit cocksucker that deserves every ounce of misery he has before he descends into hell. Seriously, read about some of the shit he pulled before going back on his word and moving the Browns. He's scum of the earth and I can only hope for a little extra suffering to make up for the SB he won in Baltimore.

I toned down my response because I didn't really feel like going on a 48 hour break for how I feel about Modell.

I could give a shit less about the condition he's in, drop him off on Lake and let the fans beat his ass to death, that might be the most unified you'd ever see the citizens of any given city.... ever. I was at the home game against Baltimore in 99' - I dont think I'll experience another crowd like that. We lost, yeah, but everyone around me was just so happy to have the Browns back that we didnt even care (at the time) how shitty they played.

Never forget the last game at Municipal and watching it on TV. People tearing out seats and throwing shit everywhere - those images I remember like yesterday.

I still have the "No Barking Until the Dogs Come Home" (Opening Day 99') license plate amongst my collection of SWAG. Won't ever get rid of it either.

Bernie Kosar finds treatment

Bernie Kosar spent more than 10 years in persistent pain, the effects of more than one dozen documented concussions he sustained in 13 years as an NFL quarterback.
There are hits he remembers. There were others, so many others with the Browns, he shook off with smelling salts tucked into the front of his pants on game day.
But the ringing and buzzing in his head never subsided. Kosar couldn't sleep. He slurred his words. His life, troubled by financial woes and a failed marriage, was almost unlivable. He was desperate, masking his misery with medication and trying to pretend things weren't as bad as they seemed.
Desperate for help after tapping into numerous medical resources with limited results, Kosar discovered Dr. Rick Sponaugle, a "pioneer" in brain therapies who runs a wellness institute in Palm Harbor, Fla. Kosar claims through Sponaugle's "groundbreaking" work that his symptoms have improved, his brain is healing and he's feeling better than he has in years.
