Definitely a Bengals win if Maddox is at QB. If Big Ben is there, it's a toss up. It will depend on the Bengals run defense and whether they can keep forcing turnovers.

If the Steelers run the Bus 30 times at the Bengals as usual, it may be tough (if he can play).

If anyone wants a good laugh you should check out the Steeler board. Not only should Maddox be cut, Cowher should be fired. I thought posters hoping for both Maddox and Cowher's untimely deaths was bad enough until several poster suggested they should both be tortured for several days before they are killed and sent to hell to burn for eternity, and that was just the women talking.

If the Bengals win Saturday I'd be pretty surprised if they don't win the AFC North title.

What Steelers messageboard were you looking at? Stillers.com is a joke, 99% negativity. The steelers.com messageboard is worthless. I post on Steelers Nation. That is probably the best and oldest Steelers messageboard. There are some great posters on there that know football and there are a lot of Ohio State fans on there. If you are an outsider and are respectful you will be liked. Though, if you come in talking smack right away then everybody will jump on you. I really don't like Cowher and think he will never win a Super Bowl, but some of the negativity on Steelers nation is a little over the top this week. The negativity for Maddox I can understand.

Man, oh man! You HAVE to be able to stop the run. Particularly when you know that the opponent is going to be running every play.

The little things were huge. Dropped TD pass, missed FG. Leaving points on the field. The Bengals really had a chance to jump up early, but could only put three on the board. Need at least 10 points out of those two drives.

Stupid five yard penalty by Anthony Mitchell on third down. You KNOW you can't make contact with the receiver once he's five yards past the line of scrimmage. The guy was twenty yards downfield! That would have forced a punt with the score at 17-6. Later on that drive, on 3rd and 3, letting Bettis keep going for the first down after it looked like he was going down short of the marker. Hit until the whistle, dammit! Could have held them to a field goal (keeing it a two possession game), instead they score a touchdown to make it 24-6.

As far as the officiating, the flag on Ward for taunting was a joke. He wasn't spiking the ball at anyone. He got up, turned around, and spiked the ball. It happened to hit a Bengals player. No intent, whatsoever (IMO). They definitely blew the fumble by Perry, but it worked out for the Stillers anyways with the pick and return.

I wanted to climb into the television and strangle the color commentary guy. What a friggin' moron. He added nothing, nada, zip, zilch, zero to the game. If I had to hear one more of his god-awful laughs at one of his own stupid-ass jokes (I use 'joke' loosely), I might have been forced to stick my hand into the garbage disposal.

Ah, well. Still in a good place. 5-2 isn't so bad. Go out and take care of business against the Packers and Ravens. Get to the bye week at 7-2 and get everyone healthy for the stretch run.

The 15 yarder on Taylor, when he tackled CJ was a joke as well.

I also agree about the color guy, he was absolutely awful. Never seen a weekend more full of awful officiating and horrid announcers in my life.

The call where the DB threw CJ was a bad callWard's call was 100% correct. If you spike the ball and it hits an opposing player, it will get penalized EVERY TIME. No doubt about that one.The Bengal D is a joke. Jerome Bettis has no legs left and he run right through them. Eddie George would run for 100 against them.

It did not seem to me that Ward was taunting the Bengals, merely that he was excited after making a catch that atoned for a holding penalty called on him the play before. He didn't stand over the DB or even say anything to a Bengal (that I could see.) If the safety hadn't come up to the play and Ward had spiked it in the same manner, there wouldn't have been a penalty.

Prediction - the Bengals draft for Defense again this year - hopefully they can snag Bobby Carpenter.

This game was a huge wake-up call for the Bengals and their fans (me included). They got it handed to them by a more physical, mature and talented squad.

True, if they had put the points up on the board on the early drives it makes the complexion of the game different. True, a 10-0, 14-0 lead would have made the Steelers play catch-up. But, honestly, it would have drawn out the turn-around point in the game till the late 3rd quarter instead of the 2nd half. Woulda and coulda been would not have stopped the running game the Steelers brought. It would not have changed the eventual outcome, it would only have changed the margin of victory.

The Bengals still have much to look forward to this season. They still sit atop the division, though that will likely change once the games played even out. This was a much worse outcome than the loss in Jacksonville. To make that elite level (which I frankly did not think the Bengals were in - yet) the Bengals have to be able to do three things.

A - Hold serve on your home field, no matter the quality of the opponent.
B - Win away from home against quality opponents
C - And to do each of the above they need to further improve their running game, while also (critically) improving their rushing defense.

This season is far, far from over. There are many goals the Bengals can still achieve, including making the post-season. One game at a time.

.

I couldn't agree with you more. On the catch that CJ had that was called a TD and then reversed, He kept saying ohhh they are going to reverse this because he didn't have control of the ball. I turned to my gf and said this guy is on crack. I said the only way this get reversed is if they say his hand hit on the line before his elbow hit. Sure enough after 10 minutes of the color guy trying to convinve everyone CJ didn't have control, the ref comes and says that Johnson's hand hit out of bounds. Cross ( the Color guy) goes yep he is right but even if he was in bounds it didn't mater because he never had control. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I turn the TV off and listen to it on the radio. They had the hand hitting right away. I think the Bengals are better than they showed yesterday...they are just young and they weren't ready for a big game like Pittsburgh was. Pittsburgh with Roeth, Ward, and Bettis might be the best team in the football...at least one of them...it's tough to argue against the Colts. The Bengals are still 5-3, and I would say, with their schedule, have a good shot at winning the division and getting a home game in the playoffs.

The Bengals running game is just fine. They are not the Chiefs or the Steelers, but top 10. The run defense is totally the key. This is a 12+ win team with a run defense. Until then, they are a good team, but not great.
