Belgian Company Buys Budweiser

This isn't the first time. Miller was long ago bought out by SAB, aka South African Breweries. Heineken is a Dutch company. Many of what are called "craft beers" in America were LONG AGO bought out by Anheiser or other large corporations.

Hm, an interesting little bit of speculation in an article on Reuters about this sale.

Adding another dimension to any deal was Mexico's No. 1 brewer Grupo Modelo, which is 50 percent owned by Anheuser. Modelo, which makes Corona, said it was in talks with InBev.
BEER CONSOLIDATION
After the merger InBev will regain the world brewing top spot it lost last year to SABMiller, which was boosted by strong growth in China and the purchase of Grolsch.
It is also the latest mega deal in the fast consolidating beer industry, with Scottish & Newcastle having agreed to be broken up by Carlsberg A/S and Heineken NV.
Analysts believe SABMiller will now look at possible deals with Mexico's Modelo or FEMSA, Foster's or Molson Coors, with whom it has agreed to merge U.S. operations.

The Czechs have their own Budweiser which has an interesting history that is tangentially related to American Budweiser. It will be interesting to see whether this European switch leads to any further competition between the brands.

Bud?jovický Budvar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Czech kind is pretty popular among my German friends, who always ask if someone wants a Budweiser, then when they receive confusing looks clarify "no, the Czech one, not the American one."

The fact that half of Americans drink that panther piss is most certainly about taste, or lack there of.

Budweiser is a very popular beer.

Not unlike the Backstreet Boys. Very popular, but if America sold them to China, we'd be better off in the long run. Don't you think?

I like Budweiser because of its lack of taste. When I want to get completely fucked up, what do I buy? Budweiser. It's cheaper for the most part, and easier to drink in large quantities.

When I want a beer with a meal, I certainly won't buy Budweiser.

They'd be stupid to change the formula.

I doubt they are going to change anything, Lagers are pretty cheap to make, and Bud is basically a cash cow.
I would think that ales would be cheaper to make than lagers since you need to cold ferment a lager for a few weeks, then store it for a month or so at near-freezing temps before it's ready to be consumed. An ale can be fermented and kegged in about two weeks. But Bud is cheap to brew not only because of AB's economies of scale, but because they add rice as an adjunct and use so few hops (which have risen in price significantly in the last year or so along with barley prices).

But I seriously doubt that there will be any recipe changes. This is a financial transaction, I'm sure InBev isn't motivated by wanting to change the taste of Bud.
