  • Do you have a beer fridge?

My refridgerator broke a few days ago and i had to surrender my beer fridge until we got the new one delivered, it sucked!

my beer fridge is nothing special, just the dorm room size thing, holds about 18 bottles, or 36 cans if i'm drinking cheap.

I have a beer fridge similar to what you described. However, I am going to one up you. This weekend I am converting an old fridge into a kegerator and installing a tap system into the bar we recently built. Needless to say, I am very excited to do this project.

We have a "dorm" size kegerator in the kitchen. It holds the 15 gallon keg we buy every two weeks. It never has food in it. OCBF converted a full size fridge into a double-tapped beer fridge. It sits in the garage. That's for his home brew, 5 gallon kegs.

It has some extra frozen stuff in it's freezer section that he put there himself but the only food the lower area has ever had in it is carrots to feed our bunnies. Men need spaces to call their own and a beer fridge should never have food in it.

We have a back corner on the bottom shelf of our regular fridge for our beer. Holds about a 6-pack. Have to replace it at LEAST once every couple months. Serious drinkers in my house.

What type of 15 gal. kegs to you typically buy?

Between that and the homebrew, I think I'm scheduling a stop at the OCBFamily's house next time I'm in SoCal.

Since we both drink from the 15 gal. it is usually golden ales of some kind. A local brewery, Bayhawk, has a nice selection for reasonable prices, slightly less than 100 bux for a 15 gal.

    bayhawkales . com

OCBF typically home brews 5 gal. batches of darker beers for himself.

When we bought our new Fridge I took the old one to the basement and "voila" converted it to a beer fridge. I usually have around 2-3 cases in there at once and 4-8 bottle of wine and sometimes there is a bottle of that Jose Cuervo pre-mixed Margarita.

Once you get used to beer from a tap, bottled beer just doesn't cut it anymore. Those fridges are relatively easy to convert and 5 gal. kegs are pretty darn cheap. Just saying.

Let's see, I've got a converted chest freezer with 6 taps of homebrew, two wine fridges (red and white) and another chest freezer I use as a fermentation chamber for my homebrews. And I still need to get one more chest freezer for long-term lagering.
