OSU does not need to schedule Cincy. If OSU wants to play a streetball team, they should book them AND1 Allstars or something. Just be thankful you haven't had to hear them bitch about not playing OSU like they did with Kentucky. You'd think them not beating UK since Great Depression would keep their manpleasers shut, but it doesn't. OSU doesn't need them, and OSU fans should be glad they don't have to deal with UC basketball fans.

I would love to see OSU play UD and Xavier though.

I think it's BS we don't play UC every year. Revenue generating rivalries are never a bad idea. Exciting rivalries that boil emotions are never a bad idea. What is the negative from playing UC? I'm tired of hearing bearcat fans tout their program and our paranoia about playing. Let's take 'em on, steal their recruits, and become the elite program in the state of Ohio once and for all.

A UD/tOSU matchup would be very cool. I don't really care about Xavier, but would rather see that than UC. UC will get theirs next year, when they get their asses handed to them on a regular basis in the Big East.

Wow...I didn't realize that my alma mater generated so much heat from OSU fans. :(

I do not support UC because of decissions that the university has made in regards to academics and campus construction over the years. I have been a Buckeye fan since birth, but because of circumstances beyond my control, I could not attend OSU.

Here are some things that get blown out of proportion about UC...and OSU fans should be the first to understand...the misconceptions about UC being a renegade program began with....**GASP** a piece by ESPiN...I think we can all agree that ESPiN is ANYTHING BUT a fact finding machine. Bob Ley reported the UC graduation rate as 'zero'...which, in fact, was 'true' by the four years played rule. Transfers in and out of the school count against you. Players leaving early for the NBA draft (Fortson, Wingfield, DerMar Johnson, Satterfield...etc...) count against you. A kid like Kieth LeGree, who transfered in from Louisville (and is a current assistant) played for two years, got a degree in economics and didn't count for UC's grad rate...but ESPiN did not report ANY of this...in fact, when bombarded with emails, letters and phone calls from UC fans, ESPiN issued a press release that said they stood solidly behind the 'facts' of the story...Now everybody associates UC with 'thugs' and 'street ballers' because of it...despite UC having a 100% grad rate the last couple of seasons.

for those of you who called UC 'criminals'...I ask you to show me the last criminal that Huggs recruited that wasn't dismissed from the team? Donald Little got arrested and was kicked off the team...(by the way...Donlad Little graduated...but because he was kicked off the team his graduation didn't count...) Am I mistaken, or does OSU have several football players that were given second and THIRD chances after being arrested for assault and are still on the team? I am a firm believer of second and third chances for young men. My point was not to degrade OSU, but to remind you how hypocritical you sound by using that argument.

As Buckeye fans we must face some simple facts...UC is the only program in Ohio to make 14 consecutive NCAA tournaments. UC is the only program in Ohio to be ranked in 15 consecutive seasons. UC has one final four and three elite 8 trips since 1992. UC, right NOW, IS the premiere program in our state...and, yes, they WANT to play OSU...and, frankly, its childish to not want to play them because they beat OSU in 61 and 62...:roll2: ...that is like saying...'we can't beat you, so we won't play with you' give me a freaking break...play them, beat them and take away their pride. As for taking their recruits...UC can't recruit against Big 10 schools to begin with. I will give DUI-Huggs that much credit as a coach...he wins with kids who don't show up on the radar of major conference teams....but with the move to the Big East that will likely change....and UC will NOT have their butts handed to them they way some OSU fans think they will.

Now, lets get UC on the schedule and kick their brains in...because they are good and its a good win...not because they are 'thuggs' or 'gangstas'

Excellent post H&G. I agree that it is childish to not play UC. Our team should be solid next year (and possibly improving year by year with the recruits Matta is in on), and we definitely would boost the rep of tOSU & the Big10 by playing them. Plus its pretty clear tOSU needs money and I can't see how a tOSU-UC game would not be quite full if not sold out. Sure would bring in a lot more people than Robert Morris.

As for Huggins, he's the main reason I don't respect UC. And so I will write them off too soon on account of my lack of respect for his character than anything else. The general sentiment I've received from Cincinnati in general (with regard to tOSU) doesn't help either. All in all, I'll chalk one up on your side of the scoreboard, and with it some green.

Great Post. Us UC fans are trying to turn around our image from other fans because it's ridiculous the amount of garbage other fans spew out at us. Yes, we did have a 0% graduation rate for sometime as the reasons mentioned above. We had a 100% graduation rate a few years ago, but no one mentioned that. Of course, they failed to mention UC was 1/1 in that 100% as I'm sure a few of those 0% were 0/1 or 0/2. James White, Jamaal Lucas, and Jason Maxiell have already graduated or are ready to on this years team. But if you want to continue to call the team "thugs" then that's fine by me. Of course that would mean we're a smart group of thugs because as reported by the NCAA, UC was reported to have a higher rate than OSU in men's basketball with a 916 compared to an 881 with OSU.

I realize many people hate Bob Huggins and that's fine with me. I can see why people hate him. But give me one more coach who has done more with less than Huggs. Hell, I can only think of a few McDonald's All-Americans Huggs has put on the court. I would love to see OSU and UC play each other. There is no reaon to. Same with UK but UK is too proud and arrogant to ever schedule such a renegade program like UC. I hope that with UC going to hte Big East, we would be able to schedule someone else with our reputation going up in a more credible conference.

Great post H&G!!!

I still think that we should play Cincy every year. I just don't understand the reasoning of they beat us in 61&62. I kind of reminds of Notre Dame in football. WHy don't they schedule tOSU b/c they did and we beat them.

Speaking of Keith LeGree:

Cincinnati assistant LeGree suspended after DUI charge

March 24, 2005
SportsLine.com wire reports

CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati basketball assistant Keith LeGree was suspended after he was charged with driving under the influence, less than a year after coach Bob Huggins was suspended for a drunken driving conviction.

LeGree will remain on suspension until the university completes an investigation, the school said Thursday. He will continue to be paid but will forfeit benefits and will not be allowed to coach the team.

"Our image has taken yet another big hit by the careless action of someone, who given the events of the past year, should have been very much aware of the consequences," athletic director Bob Goin said.

Huggins returned to work Aug. 27 from a university suspension after his drunken driving conviction. The university suspended Huggins indefinitely June 12, following his arrest four days earlier.

LeGree completed his fifth season on the coaching staff. He was a point guard on the 1994-95 and 1995-96 Bearcat teams.

He could not immediately be reached for comment, and there was no telephone listing for him in Cincinnati.

what was the Damon Flint "fiasco"???
Flint committed to tOSU. There was an illegal dinner or something from an OSU coach. NCAA got involved. Damon would've had to sit out a year at OSU. Damon went to Cincy.

Obviously that was the short version. If anyone has more details then feel free.

OSU coaches (Ayers) paid for a meal off of campus...that is a no-no as far as the NCAA is concerned.

There was more to the Damon Flint story than just the off campus meal which alone wouldn't have been a huge deal. There were 17 NCAA violations. A gift of a gym bag was one of them, and I think a several of them were for illegal contacts. If I remember correctly, a few of the violations were due to contact during a dead period and too many contacts. One was due to Ayres calling to express his condolences when Damon's grandmother died.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I confused my facts.
