BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

The BCS computer polls have officially lost all credibility.

They have Missouri rated two spots ahead of Oklahoma - apparently one spot for each time the Sooners beat them.

So much for proving it on the field.

The computers see that as two losses to a top-5 team, and they see Oklahoma's two losses to unranked Colorado and Texas Tech as more damaging to a team's ranking.

3 of the 6 computers also have Va. Tech #1 overall, ahead of LSU, who beat them 48-7. But that's a 'quality loss', and by rule the BCS computers can't factor in margin of victory.

Well, that computer thing got me thinking, as well. Is Missouri a "better" team because they won every game this year they were "supposed" to win, whereas Oklahoma clearly did not? Or, is Oklahoma clearly a "better" team than Missouri because they have Mizzou's number?

What if there is a team out there that can beat anybody but one particular team? Is there any real way to quantify who is "the best"? Even in a tournament, you need to get the luck of the draw to avoid the one that can beat you.

Regardless of those meanderings, any computer that has a two-loss team ranked ahead of another two-loss team that beat the aforementioned two-loss team by 41 (!) points head-to-head is worthless. Virginia Tech is NOT the best team in the country.

Perhaps this has been ranted on before, but I'm already very very sick of the "didn't have to play in a conference championship" line every time OSU is brought up - its as old as "sitting at home" and "back-doored into the national chamionship."

OSU has played a complete 12-game schedule, with NO bye weeks to get healthy and/or rest. Furthermore, Oklahoma, LSU and Virginia Tech GAINED by playing in their conference championships. Without conference championships to push them over the edge, USC is probably the leading 2-loss team. BC would have won the ACC. LSU may still have won the SEC, but would have limped across the finish line with its late loss. Mizzou would have won the Big12 after beating Kansas. Of the BCS coferences only 3 teams got through 12 games with one loss - OSU, Kansas and Mizzou... if ANYONE should be angry, its Missouri, and THAT'S IT.

Should LSU be in the title game with us? Sure, subjectively it makes sense, but the effing worldwide leader makes it sound as if its amazing that OSU is in the title game. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. And we're the only ones that can say that.

Well the whole"OSU back-doored their way in" isnt valid because so did LSU. And now the system will have to crown an outright champ across the board because if OSU wins, we beat the pick of the litter and if LSU wins(which won't happen) the heads can jump on the SEC bandwagon again. The system is going to get what its supposed to......

A OUTRIGHT CHAMP....

US!!!!!!!!

I agree. Also, the funniest part of the whole "they didn't play in a conference championship game" arguement, especially when it comes from an SEC fan, is the fact that the SEC's 2 best teams weren't even in the conference championship game, as Georgia didn't win its own division. What is the point of having a conference "championship" if it doesn't take the best 2 teams and declare one of them the best?

When Appalachian State beat Michigan I was flabbergasted. When Notre Dame beat UCLA I was preplexed... by the time Stanford beat USC and LSU lost to Kentucky I finally got it: This year no team is safe and no team is unbeatable. Until we lost to Illinois I thought Ohio State would be in the national championship game against a 2 loss team... I still do. Nobody out there has shown me they are that much better than the teams on their schedule so I for one won't be shocked if every team above us loses another game. As a matter of fact, I expect it but I won't be dissapointed if I'm wrong.

I'm quoting myself to add credibility to what I'm about to write. Of the teams we could have played for the National Championship we have the most to gain by beating LSU. My gut tells me Ohio State destroys them. I don't see them as that good at anything except being lucky. Hester is a pain in the ass and Dorsey will probably be healthy but if we're lucky so will Flynn. In an odd way the Florida game may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Either way, OSU 2008 Preseason #1.

I agree that playing LSU is actually better for the Bucks than it would have been to play WVU or Mizzou. If we win it will make the NC more legitmate and give the haters less to say about.

Oh and no offense but no Buckeye fan should be talking about destroying anybody this year after what happened last year when most of us thought we were such a solid lock to win it.

I'm not going to look back through all the pages in here, but I know that I posted, with certaintly, that we would not be going to the BCS bowl after the Illini game. Um, obviously I was wrong. What a season!!!

I've heard a lot about tOSU backing into the "Ship" game, the reason the "experts" aren't talking about LSU backing in also is that with that SEC speed they actually just lapped us to get to back door:biggrin:

It should be a good game. Two big, strong, fast teams that play similar styles. LSU should be healthy so we will probably see a better team than we've seen from them most of the year.

If our lines come to play, then I expect a hard fought victory. It gives us a huge opportunity to erase a lot of bad memories and build some good ones.

No offense taken because Buckeye fans are not created equally. College football is not about last year... it is about who we have now and who we play now. According to the experts who don't watch us every week and don't know what JT did to prevent another national stage debacle... we are the underdogs. I could go into the details about why I think we're better than last year but frankly since you can't see how much different this year's LSU team is from last year's Florida team and how much different our approach is from last year, I'm sure this will be a hollow debate. No offense.
