There is a scenario where a two-loss team could sneak in. Kansas is guaranteed at this point to finish the season at worst with one loss. Either they lose this week and sit out the Big XII Championship, or they win this week and lose in the Big XII Championship, or they win both and finish undefeated.

In the unlikely but possible scenario where Ohio State and Kansas are the only two teams left standing with one loss, it's possible that the powers that be would find a way to exclude Kansas in that scenario because they would not be their conference's champion. I think plenty of people still have a bad taste in their mouths from the last time a Big XII team that wasn't a conference champion got a berth in the NC game. In that case, a two-loss LSU (losing to Arkansas, but winning the SEC) or Georgia (provided they make it to Atlanta and win) or even Oklahoma if they win out could get to New Orleans over a one-loss Kansas team.

A lot of crazy shit would have to happen, but it's possible I think.

Isn't this an officlial rule that was created after Oklahoma got in the NC game after losing in the Big XII CG? I believe it is an official rule, but it may also be an "unofficial" rule between voters.

With two weeks left in the regular season, LSU, Kansas, Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio State and Arizona State are the only teams left with aspirations to play in the BCS title game in New Orleans on Jan. 7.

After Saturday afternoon's victory against Michigan, the Ohio State Buckeyes were content to stop and smell the roses.
The Buckeyes guaranteed themselves an appearance in the Rose Bowl. Now they might find themselves giving special thanks to Arizona and Texas Tech for their upsets of Oregon (previously ranked No. 2) and Oklahoma (previously ranked No. 4), respectively, giving OSU reasons to dream about singing When the Saints Go Marching In.

Don?t put away those BCS Richter scales yet. The tremors around college football might not be over.

?We?re going to Pasadena unless it shakes out the other way,? Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel said Saturday after the Buckeyes? 14-3 win at Michigan.

OSU grabbed the Big Ten title and the Rose Bowl bid that comes with it. The Buckeyes haven?t been to the Rose Bowl since following the 1996 season.

But Ohio State, its regular season over with an 11-1 record, is still in the hunt for the BCS national title game.

The Buckeyes rank fifth behind No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Kansas, No. 3 Missouri and No. 4 West Virginia in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The top two teams in the BCS rankings at season?s end will face off in the Sugar Bowl for the national title.

ANN ARBOR - There was a distinct rose-colored flavor to Ohio State's celebration in the moments immediately following Saturday's 14-3 win over rival Michigan. The prevailing assumption was that the Buckeyes (11-1) would be headed for the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day, based on their dominant performance against the Wolverines which produced a second straight outright Big Ten championship. That dove-tailed with the notion that a loss to Illinois two weeks ago would slam the door on Ohio State's chances of playing in the national championship game, making the Rose Bowl a pretty aromatic consolation prize. And although the Buckeyes had their teeth clenched around long-stemmed red roses like a bunch of sweaty, over-sized Rudolph Valentinos doing the tango, they might have jumped the gun a bit. Too much football is left on the schedule around the rest of the country.

Why would an Ohio State player do that, fresh from celebrating a victory over his team?s biggest rival?
And why should his mention of Florida bring a smile to the faces of Ohio State fans?
Because he wasn?t talking about what Florida did to Ohio State in the Bowl Championship Series title game in January. He was talking about how Florida got to that game.
After Ohio State clinched its spot in last year?s title game, the widespread assumption was that it was going to be playing Southern California. But when the Trojans were upset by UCLA in their final regular-season game, Florida jumped over them to get to the championship game.

Roses are nice, national title would be better

James Laurinaitis and Beanie Wells carried their roses around in their teeth on Saturday. Dionte Johnson entered the interview room with his tucked in his ear.


While all the Ohio State players are excited for a trip to Pasadena, they would all gladly trade in their roses for a trip to New Orleans.


The Buckeyes' national championship hopes, which seemed crushed only a week ago, are now gaining steam. Losses by Oregon and Oklahoma have nudged Ohio State up to fifth this week in the BCS.

Even though the Big Ten season is complete, there is still plenty of college football left before the final pairings are set. Now the Ohio State players must sit back and wait for final confirmation.

''Like my dad always says, hope for the best and prepare for the worst,'' safety Kurt Coleman said. ''In our case, the worst is the Rose Bowl.''
