Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (free on XBL this week)

Just got done playing on a 6-man team (two squads but chatting on a XBL party), great stuff. It gets a little verbose at times but the coordination and teamwork was absolutely dominant.

After using the AUG for the last few weeks, I'm coming back to the M4 for my assault rifle. Still hate the m16 for anything other than long range work. It really needs an auto-fire switch.

BTW, for anyone looking to get the garand, you can register online for Battlefield Heroes and use that to unlock. Search youtube or tutorials on google for how to do so.

Also, the Thompson does not save statistics, but apparently the Garand counts towards the Thompson & Garand stats. If you're looking to get all of the bronze stars, that's the way to do it.

care to make a donation to my "gonna buy a gaming PC" fund? Civ V comes out in the fall and if I get stupid enough I may actually consider buying a PC for the sole purpose of playing games on

speaking of that, and this may be more appropriate for another thread, does anyone use a laptop for gaming? or is that just stupid since it costs more for equivalent hardware on a laptop?

You'll find FPS to be far superior on a PC. The movement with a mouse and keyboard (IMHO) is just much more natural.

As for a laptop - having a DRL is always nice for simplicity, but sometimes its hard to justify the cost/performance ratio. I'd just stick with a box if I were you.

Let me know when you might get around to building a PC, I may have a few things I can toss at you.

You can get a laptop that will play games, but it will be lower res, too big, terrible battery life, and/or will cost you an arm and a leg. The Alienware m11x is one of the better small gaming laptops that is affordable. Asus also makes some great value gaming laptops. Yet none of them will give you good battery life, which sort of defeats the purpose of them as a laptop. They will also be thicker and heavier than non gaming laptops. In the end, building your own computer will give you way higher performance for the dollar. Gaming laptops are better than they used to be (they used to be a complete joke), but still not a great mix of gaming and mobility.

As for buying a computer for gaming....for $600 you can build a computer that can play every game. It may not be super high res or maxed out settings, but should do well.

Just for example. Here is Tom's Hardware's $750 build. It can play Crysis at Very High Settings in 1080p. Which means it can play pretty much every game at those settings.

Of course that does not include monitor, mouse, or keyboard.

It's incredible how much better THG has gotten over the past 7 years.

That's a solid build. Now that we're already way OT :biggrin:

btw those 435's are badass chips. The Deneb's with the proper stepping use to have a fairly high success rate of unlocking. Now-a days AMD is binning those chips down (much like Intel did in day's past) Those unlocking the 4th cores aren't so much easier to come by :(

I used to play Counter Strike in high school on a PC and couldn't stand console FPS because of that for a couple years, it's been so long now though that I have forgotten the difference and don't really mind BC2 on the 360, but yeah, I know how much better it is on a PC

Onslaught is bringing co-op gameplay to Battlefield for the first time on console. The new game mode puts you and up to three friends against the enemy on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes and Nelson Bay ? redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects. Each map has a dedicated gameplay focus, requiring different levels of teamwork in order to complete the objectives against an onslaught of enemy AI. Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault. Players can compete in squads and check individual progress via the dedicated Onslaught leaderboards.

Senior Producer Patrick Bach had these few words to say about Onslaught mode ?We want to consistently support the fans playing the game with new ways to get into multiplayer and also challenge the elite players with new experiences to improve their performance online. Effective squad play is the key to success in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer and this new mode will provide players with a dedicated environment to test their team skills and rank against the competition.?

Onslaught mode will be available on Xbox Live and on the PlayStation Network.

Wow, no love for the PC players though.

It looks like the special "kits" or clothing that people are running around with from those Dr. Pepper codes are now going to be able to bought online.
