Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (free on XBL this week)

No one was on tonight, so I decided to hop on with GomerBucks. Anyone else on here might want to think twice first.

To set the scene, I'm standing behind him, outside of a trailer. An enemy rushes out of the door firing, I fire two rounds at him. At the same time, Gomer runs right in front of my path. The enemy's rounds hit Gomer but so does one of mine.

Gomer flips out, starts fuming and tossing out threats about how he's going to make me pay. I tried explaining what happened, but there's no stopping the virtual tough guy. He whispers and cackles about all of the things he's going to do to me, tries to sound like a horror film villain as he stalks and eventually kills me.

Comical stuff, Gomer. Way to prove your manhood.

I wish there was a SMG with a larger clip. The 2nd to last SMG is devastating within 30 feet but runs out too quickly. With the huge clips for the LMG spammers, it would be nice to have a comparable clip (perhaps instead of the accuracy add-on), 60 or 75.

scott, when exactly do you hit reload on the big guns? I've tinkered and can't seem to get the hang of it.

Here is an example, although with a sniper rifle.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fTrY_o1fSk"]YouTube - battlefield bad company 2 reload time weapon switching[/ame]

Each one is unique. With the Carl it's as soon as the missile is about fully loaded into the weapon. On the m60 it's after you put down the that lever that goes on top of the bullets. For most weapons it seems to be once the ammo is inserted and locked down you are good to go (once your ammo counter goes up do the switch). It eliminates any extraneous movements (also seen in the video, it eliminates cocking the weapon). You also have to be fast with the weapon switch like the guy in the video for it to be of benefit. For me it's easy. I have pistol set to left scroll on my mouse, and main weapon to right scroll. Two quick movements. Console might be tougher. Just remember, it only saves a small amount of time. It's not a major glitch. Yet for long loading weapons it can save 2 seconds, and in a firefight that can be a big difference.

Look at the chart I posted last page. It has 2 reload times. "Add" is the time to when the ammo counter goes up and you can do the weapon switch trick. "Time" is the full weapon reload animation time. LMG's, bolt action sniper rifles, and rocket launchers are all over 2 seconds difference, with some of them approaching 3 seconds.

Even if you don't get good at a quick weapon switch, it's really beneficial after you fire a rocket and don't need it again right away. I don't want to have to load it next time I need it, so I let it reload to the "add" time. Then switch to my SMG. Allows me to switch to my SMG quicker, and I know next time I need a rocket it's reloaded.

People in this game flip out for all kinds of reasons. Stupid stuff happens. I think I have about 40 team kills. Some understandable, like the time I demolished a Mcomm building with a mortar strike. As soon as the mortars were hitting a guy jumped in the building and his whole squad spawned on him. I got 4 team kills when the building collapsed on them.

Of course my biggest mistakes are normally as an engineer. Some times in my haste I try and switch quick to the repair tool and instinctively hit fire right away. Too bad I switched to the rocket launcher instead and fire a rocket right into the back of a tank. Oops.

I have also had choppers blow up. I am normally a pretty good pilot, but every now and then I will clip something. I have gotten the usual "if you can't fly then don't try" crap. Of course both times I have gotten that were by guys that jumped in the chopper first and then switched to the gunner. I hate those guys.

Those things always lead to nasty people, but oh well. Stuff happens in video games. The only times I get ticked about team kills is blatant killing on HC servers. I have revenged killed on those guys. I saw a guy headshot one of my teammates because he jumped into a boat (I was the boat pilot) right before him. I of course jumped out and killed him.

I almost wish they had team damage on regular servers(non HC). There's so many times I've wanted to team kill a teammate. Like when I'm sniping and a squad mate decides it's good to spawn on me and start unloading his LMG, it's not like the kill cam doesn't give my spot away half of the time anyway. I don't care if you spawn on me and then run off to kill people. Or when you need ammo, a repair or health and your teammates are oblivious. One shot in the back(not enough to kill) could solve that problem. One major advantage on the PC is the type/message/chat feature. I was ran out of ammo and was hiddin in a fairly good spot the other day and I needed some ammo. Of course my squad was being useless and ignoring my calls for ammo. So I typed out that I needed ammo to my team, someone asked where I was and they came over and resupplied me. I know you can look at someone and press select and it will output a message of whatever you need, but everyone always ignores that.

The worst is Russian is the default language for the Russian team, not English. Too many do not change that and have no idea someone is calling for ammo or med kits. Others probably have no idea that if you hear "I need some ammo" that person is asking YOU. I have spammed people, and they hear over and over "I need some ammo," "hey, gimme some ammo!" etc. I wonder what they think is going on. I then start shooting them in the head with my pistol. Some figure it out, yet others just continue to ignore me. I then scurry off to find another assault class hoping I don't get shot.

As soon as I hear it I drop a ammo box right away. You don't hear that if you are not being asked. Of course I also drop ammo boxes and med kits all over the place for random heals and ammo points.

Yeah I've played both. My little brother has a nice gaming rig for a PC, but that's only on weekends. If I had a gaming pc and people to play in a squad with this would be my #1 choice.

I used to play Counter Strike on the computer waaaay back in the day and remember thinking it was infinitely better than first person shooters on consoles, even with a 56k connection

Then I bought a mac and am so used to console shooters that I don't even notice anymore

But yeah, I agree that first person shooters on a PC are better, the ability to react with the mouse is much quicker than with a joystick

My 18yr old nephew has been on my XBox lately. If he said stuff to offend you I apologize... I dont need to prove my manhood on a headset.
