You were not going to be able to anyway with the TV contract right?
Isn't that what the "Big Noon" Fox sports deal is all about? Play the biggest games at noon when the rest of the leagues have their *ahem* lighter games?

To actually answer your question, the B1G has a rule against conference games beginning after dark in November. They say it’s because it gets too cold at that time, not just for the players but for the fans. Speculations about alternative explanations for the rule have to explain why the rule doesn’t apply in other months. Ohio State is likely to face the highest-ranked opponent of the season in September; the kickoff time for that game has nothing whatever to do with the November rule and everything to do with Fox’s business decision (that appears to have worked out well for them and has been discussed ad nauseum). So the size of the games really appears to have nothing to do with the November rule.

yes, games that occur near the end of a season have more obvious division-title / playoff-berth implications, but early season games between highly ranked teams appear to get ratings just as high as November games between teams with similar rankings. The exception to that might be rivalry games; so why then apply the rule to all of November and not just rivalry week?

Finally, THAT TEAM UP NORTH hasn’t been the toughest game on the Buckeyes’ schedule in a long time. This rule was never about them.
