Was somewhat pleased with the first episode... it hinted at some character depth that I wasn't expecting. I anticipated an athlete version of Entourage and while I think that's still high-level what we'll get, the pilot was encouraging in its focus.

I watched the second episode to prove to myself how terrible it was going to be. Somewhat shockingly, it was decent and I've taped the pilot through, I think, Episode 4 now. Audibled out of True Detective.

I can understand the decision on True Detective, but I will say, Episode 5 was easily the best so far. They spent way too much time setting up the characters (seems like the first 4 should have been 1 maybe 2 episodes), but now it finally seems like we're going to get some actual plot development. Who knows if the last 3 will be any good but may be worth getting to them.

I didn't hate it, but it does irritate me a little that in an eight episode show they wait until the fourth or fifth episode to really get going on it. Depending on how the well-received the last few are I may come back to it later.

I'm only up through where they throw the party with the yacht and the white guy's all delirious with wannabe swagger and drunk and yells out something about his niggaz. That made me laugh out loud. I (we all probably do) know guys who would do that.

Did anyone catch Lamar Woodley in that episode with the yacht and Victor Cruz? I thought Ballers would've been able to get someone better fit for the screen, and that scene in particular. It certainly wasn't the most flattering picture of him, although he's found himself in plenty of unflattering pictures over the years. None better than this, IMO.
