Left SC at 6am yesterday....cruising along, enjoying the drive. Jeep starts sputtering and coughing...I assume I just got into some bad gas and add some octane treatment. Running better...
Get past Charlotte and the sputtering becomes a miss...then a jerking miss. Shit. Only 60k miles on this thing..
No kidding here...I am in Mount Airy, NC which is the inspiration for Mayberry. Andy Griffith stuff everywhere. Mechanics are booked and not very friendly...finally, one puts down his Natty Light and tells me there is a Jeep dealership in Galax...20 minutes up the highway.
I get to the dealership around noon...they tell me the fuel pump is cashed out. $450...no problem, just fix it. The dealership wouldn't be dishonest right?
I sit in the dealership for 5 hours while they fix it...back on the road at 5something....
20 miles up the road...starts the same severe missing. I call the dealership and they tell me its just the engine working out the "bad stuff." Fine I say and add more octane booster to roll on. No problem all the way into WV...then it starts missing again.
The miss gets worse and worse...pouring rain, mountains, darkness, and a handicapped vehicle...not a good combination. Somehow one of those 18 wheelers did not take me out...I crawled back to Ohio stalling and wheezing the whole way.
Spent all morning changing plugs, plug wires, air filter, oil filter, and oil...plugs and wires were fried from the over-laboring fuel pump. Another $60...
Take it down the road to test it out...working perfectly for about 8 miles...then miss, miss, wheeze, stall.
I massage the dashboard with my fist...Merry Christmas you piece of shit.
Local mechanics are out until tuesday morning...they might be able to squeeze me in to get the thing on the computer.
Merry Christmas...ugh.
