You kids stay off my lawn!
I'm sending out invites for a bowl viewing party and it's beginning to sink in that January 8th sucks. Both the 8th and 9th are work days for most folks hence the audiance for this game is going to be largely centered on those with a connection to the schools, the retired and the unemployed. (thank God I'm in the first two categories)

What a shame. This Buckeye team deserves a better market. Michigan can come out better in one sense, they get the Rose Bowl, New Years Day and a better market share. (and, if the Bucks loose in a squeaker and they win big, there will some who will vote them #1.)

CFB needs to negotiate with the NFL or realign the Bowl Game schedule. A Friday night game would be much preferred and I have to wonder why they didn't put this game on on the 5th.

maybe next year it'll be scheduled for the 12th. if that doesn't work, i'm sure the 19th would be fine. maybe the ncaa should just go ahead and schedule 20-game seasons. oh, that's right... the student in student-athlete must be upheld.

While I am more confident than you that there will be plenty of eyeballs glued to the game on January 8th, I do agree cincibuck that better scheduling would only help these big BCS bowls.
It is the primary reason why I look back wistfully at the old bowl schedules - peaking with a January 1 slate of back-to-back-to-back gameday of top notch games. As for the current game's timing, Jan 9th will be a half-day for me, but I am lucky in having plenty of vacation days that I may take.

Good luck with the party cincibuck.

The BCS Title game is also hurt by being aired on Fox. The Rose Bowl is getting all the hype. I haven't even really seen any ads for the BCS title game. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Rose Bowl get similar ratings to the BCS Title game.

The OSU-UM game was way more hyped than the title game. ABC having several channels to run adds on helps.

Fox needs to ramp up the hype. Not only on their main channel, but on all the Fox Sports channels. Where's the countdown clock?

I like the fact that ESPN/ABC lost the BCS games (except the Rose Bowl) to Fox. I typically like ESPN and ABC coverage, but they're gaining too much of a monopoly on college football - the Big Ten, especially. Any time that a network puts the #1 team on a special members-only channel (in a conference game), and fans just say, "Such is life!" is pretty bad. Someone needs to take ESPN down a notch or two, kick them in the throats, and then bitch-slap them until they pee their pants every time they ever THINK about putting Ohio State on a special members-only channel.

Back to the topic, I would have liked to have seen the game on the 6th. But I don't care, much. I have the 8th and the 9th off work.

i agree, having the national championship game on a monday night, and not even starting it till 8:30 is rediculous...think about all the poor school kids throughout our great state...those first few classes are going to be hell...they should really move it to saturday night, i mean what was the most viewed college football game in the past ten years? And it was scheduled at 3:30 on a saturday....

WHY DOES THE BCS HAVE TO SCREW EVERYTHING UP

Does anyone know why the game is scheduled for Monday the 8th rather than the seemingly more logical choices of either Friday the 5th or Saturday the 6th?

I think it's partially because of the timing of having 3 games in the Phoenix area. Here's an article that talks about the Fiesta Bowl committee organizing the events for all of the teams.

I couldn't disagree more! FOX does a supreme job of fucking up every sporting event that they cover and I was quite bummed when I learned they had delved into college football.

As for the game being on the 8th, I don't like it either. It is quite late. On the bright side however, the game is one week closer to the beginning of spring practices than if it were on the 1st .

Because the NFL OWNS all day Saturday and Sunday and no one, especially Fox, wants to fuck with the NFL... which is why I wondered why they didn't go with Friday. You could have put some games that mattered into this week and pushed the who-gives-a-fuck bowl to the week before Christmas when all we had was American Idol and reality show re-runs.
