Remember when he threw out the first pitch at a baseball game?
I couldn't bring myself to putting Pryor on the list because without his last year, his numbers are quite pedestrian. He's not even top 50 in career passing yards in the conference, and he'd be the lowest on this list for TDs scored. Now if TP had his senior year, I'd predict he'd be in the top 2. But he didn't, so I can only go by what he did.Agreed.
What???
My thoughts on a list like this.
1. It's just clickbait during offseason.
2. CJ Stroud should be #1, in my IMO, and Fields #2. #3 isn't close. If you want to switch my #1 and #2, that's fine.
3. I am shocked that someone is giving some respect to Barrett. As a passer, I'd say he was a C+ to B- passer. But as a quarterback in college, he was an A+. He knew how to make that read on the hand-off. He made that first guy miss. He had speed. Most non-Buckeye fans don't give him the credit he deserves.
4. I couldn't tell you anything about Curtis Rourke. The name is only vaguely familiar.
5. Brad Banks? The name is slightly more familiar to me, but I don't know what year(s) he played.
6. Denard Robinson did well in 2011, from what I remember. But I would have thought that his 2009 and 2010 seasons would cancel that out. You can't just look at the best couple of plays a player had and judge his entire career on it.
7. I agree that Haskins should be on the list. Maybe put him there at #3. Hell, if you want to put him at #1 or #2, I won't complain. If you want to say Mendoza is better, I'll roll my eyes and silently disagree. There's certainly no one else I'd rather see on the list.
8. If you want to put McCarthy in there, I'll just disagree. I mean, according to the NCAA, he didn't do anything worth punishing. So... I guess he didn't do anything wrong.
9. I can't take a list seriously that doesn't have Haskins or Pryor. I already talked about Haskins, but put Haskins on the 2011 team and I'm convinced they lose 0 games before the post-season. Let's look at the losses in 2011: Miami (FL) - they lost 20-6. Tell me Pryor doesn't score 2 touchdowns. Michigan State - they lost 10-7. Pryor scores many times in that game. Cheaters - they lost 40-34. I gotta believe that Pryor can hold the ball longer, reducing the cheaters' chances to score, and Ohio State wins that. Nebraska - Pryor absolutely can hold onto a 21-pt lead. Penn State only won by 6. Or 7? Either way, close enough that Pryor wins it. Purdue? That doesn't even go to overtime.
10. Yeah - I'm putting at least 7 Buckeye quarterbacks on a list of Top 12 Big Ten quarterbacks of the millennium. And I'm not opposed to putting Will Howard on there, either.
I understand the sarcasm. But you don't want to compare the 2, Krenzels stats are laughable. McCarthy doesn't allow Krenzel anywhere near the chat. And his numbers weren't even that goodCraig Krenzel enters the chat
What about Beckman plated in a NC game lolI couldn't bring myself to putting Pryor on the list because without his last year, his numbers are quite pedestrian. Krenzel didn't have the defense given to him before each play.I understand the sarcasm. But you don't want to compare the 2, Krenzels stats are laughable. McCarthy doesn't allow Krenzel anywhere near the chat. And his numbers weren't even that good
I'm going by their stats. Come on now, I didn't think I needed to go into that much detail when it seemed obvious that an NC wasn't the only reason for McCarthy. Boeckman also didn't win an NC, and his career stats were again pedestrian like KrenzelWhat about Beckman plated in a NC game lol
Stats are stats when compiling lists. If you want to throw in personal caveats based on rivals, and what is deemed as cheating or not. Than Tom Brady should never be on anyone's lists of top NFL QBs...Krenzel didn't have the defense given to him before each play.
I also doubt he ever played a game where he was only allowed to throw 3 times........let alone that game being a top 2 most important game of the season.
Agree to disagree. I think that a quarterback is more than a passer - his job is to move the ball down the field to score points.I couldn't bring myself to putting Pryor on the list because without his last year, his numbers are quite pedestrian. He's not even top 50 in career passing yards in the conference, and he'd be the lowest on this list for TDs scored. Now if TP had his senior year, I'd predict he'd be in the top 2. Jeez....you wanna throw in a billion dollars and unlimited super models to bang as other reasons to not do it?Stats are stats when compiling lists. If you want to throw in personal caveats based on rivals, and what is deemed as cheating or not. Than Tom Brady should never be on anyone's lists of top NFL QBs...
I mean.....you're the one who said McCarthy doesn't belong on this list, and then you ranked him higher than they did.It makes me want to throw up in my mouth to defend a scUM QB, but I was trying to take my Buckeye bias out when compiling the list. And Krenzel and Boeckman were 2 of the worst OSU QBs stat wise, and the only 2 I wouldn't consider on this list, or even any list stat wise.
Love the breakdown. And I agree, QBs are more than just passing, BUT they are primary passers. And thats why my comment before was about TP's passing yards, but also, his overall TDs. His stats personally aren't that spectacular. And though in 2010 the ppg was 38.7, 2.3pass tds/gm as well as 2.1 rush tds/gm. So the offense was very balanced. While in 2006, less points were scored per game, there were more passing tds/gm to rushing(2.4 vs 1.9). And TP only scored 4 rushing TDs that year, so his legs weren't as dangerous scoring(though he was still second in rushing). From his actual games played, TP's stats don't jump off the screen. But again, that last year he probably would've solidified his greatnessAgree to disagree. I think that a quarterback is more than a passer - his job is to move the ball down the field to score points.
Here's some rough numbers on points per game by quarterback. (I found points per game per season, and I'm going by that quarterback is always the quarterback. I know there's flaws in this system, but I'm at work so this is what I did.)
Bellisari 99-01 - 26.79 ppg
Krenzel 02-03 - 27.03 ppg
2004 - Smith & Zwick - 24.17 ppg
Smith 05-06 - 32.38 ppg
Boeckman 07 - 31.38 ppg
Pryor - 08-10 - 31.79 ppg (Yes, I know that the beginning of 2008 was Boeckman's. If you want to take that out of Pryor's numbers, his average becomes 33.88ppg)
2011 - Miller & I can't even remember his name - 24.46
Miller - 12-13 - 41.33
Barrett - 14-17 - 40.25
Haskins - 18 - 42.36
Fields - 19-20 - 43.93
Stroud - 21-22 - 44.96
McCord - 23 - 30.54
Howard - 24 - 35.69
Sayin - 25 - 33.43
So, Pryor is pretty low on the list, unless you compare his numbers to just Tressell's teams. You can see a huge jump in numbers from Tressell to Meyer, so let's not compare Pryor to those quarterbacks. Ohio State averaged 29.58 ppg from 2001 to 2010. He's right there below Smith, who we all agree belongs on the list. And 2010 was 38.77 ppg, whereas 2006 was 34.62ppg.
(Note that I took the number of points scored each year and divided by number of games. Then, to do that over multiple seasons, I just averaged the two averages, which works if the number of games for each year is the same. But it isn't. If anyone wants to look at this deeper, check out this website. https://www.jhowell.net/cf/scores/OhioState.htm)
Because my Buckeye bias didn't want him on the list tbhJeez....you wanna throw in a billion dollars and unlimited super models to bang as other reasons to not do it?
I mean.....you're the one who said McCarthy doesn't belong on this list, and then you ranked him higher than they did.

Brad Banks played at Iowa in 2001-2002 and was a beast. Won the Davey O'Brien award in 2002 and had a decent career in the Canadian league.Agreed.
