B1G CCG: Who defeats Whom? (Bet by noon on Nov 5)

The folks willing to [Mark May] all over tradition might say that this situation could be fixed by moving all of the cross-division games into October - Gerry DiNardo has already suggested on BTN that they move The Game to much earlier in the season.

Don't shoot me, folks, I'm just the messenger. I think he needs to be slapped upside the head just for thinking about it.

If anything, after a few seasons, maybe (fuck, I'm getting dinged ) Michigan begins to improve and contend for a spot in the B1G CCG every year, who's to say they won't just move Michigan to the [whatever division Ohio State is in].

Did he mention that recently? Last night, he was amazed with some poll which said that Michigan fans would rather see Michigan beat Ohio State, and not even make it to the BTCG, than lose to Ohio State and then go on to win the BTCG. And I was thinking... "yeah.. so?" Apparently, DiNardo doesn't understand what a college football rivalry is. Glen Mason tried to explain it to him, saying that Ohio State and Michigan would each rather go 1-11, beating the other team, than 11-1, and losing to the other team.

DiNardo, you fail at grasping the college football mentality.

The show also had the top 5 plays of the week, as voted on by the viewers. #2 was Miller to Smith for the win. #1 was Martinez to Burkhead after Burkhead limped off the field, to increase the lead from 14 to 21. Just goes to show that popularity isn't always on the side of spectacular.

It was several weeks ago that he talked about moving The Game to earlier in the year. But he's often very clueless about things that should be obvious.

With the way this Northwestern-Nebraska game is going, Iowa may have a chance to make it to the big dance, crazy as that may sound.

It didn't hurt Iowa's chances, but they actually controlled their own destiny before yesterday's games.

Here are the current scenarios, updated after the games of Nov 5th:

Leaders:
Team......Conf..Div-Wins...........Div-Losses.....Div-Remng..........Cross-Remng
PSU.......5-0...Ind,Purd,Ill.......----...........@tOSU, @Wisc........Neb
tOSU......3-2...Ill,Wisc,Ind.......----...........Ind,@Purd,PSU.......@TSUN
Wisc......3-2...Ind,Purd...........tOSU...........@Ill,PS U...........@Minn
Purd......2-3...Ill................PSU,Wisc.......tOSU,@ Ind..........Iowa

Conference record in all games is the first thing. B1G Tiebreakers first go to head-to-head, so 2-ways are easy, and 3-ways are easy if 1 team beat both of the others. But the 3-way tie where they each beat each other goes to the team with the fewest losses within the division. After that, it gets weird and complicated.

If PSU wins at least 2 of their last 3 games, they're either 7-1 or 8-0 and in the CCG.

If tOSU wins out, the Buckeyes need PSU to also lose either against Nebraska or at Wisconsin. The Buckeyes would be 5-0 in the division and own all of the tiebreakers against everybody.

For Wiscy to win the division, they need to win out AND have tOSU lose another game, AND have PSU lose another game besides the PSU-Wiscy game; since at 6-2 the only tie-breaker they can win is the head-to-head with Penn State being the only other 6-2 team.

Legends:
Team......Conf..Div-Wins...........Div-Losses.....Div-Remng........Cross-Remng
MSU.......4-1...TSUN...............NEB............@Ia,@NW .........Ind
Neb.......3-2...Minn,MSU...........NW.............@TSUN,IA........@PSU
TSUN......3-2...Minn,NW............MSU,Iowa.......Neb... ..........@Ill,tOSU
Iowa......3-2...NW,TSUN............Minn...........MSU,@Ne b........@Purd

Sparty and Iowa both control their own destiny.

If TSUN loses to Nebraska, TSUN is almost dead since they'd have 3 losses and lose virtually all of the tiebreakers to MSU, Neb and Iowa.

If TSUN beats Nebraska, the possibility of a complicated 3-way or 4-way tie comes into play. As JXC said, if Sparty's second loss is to either Iowa/NW, they'd have 2 losses within the division and they'd lose that 3-way tie since Nebraska would only have 1 divisional loss (If TSUN's second loss is to Iowa), and they'd lose the 3-way tie to TSUN if TSUN beats Nebraska and their second loss is to tOSU or Illinois.
