B1G CCG: THE Ohio State University vs NW’ern: Sat, Dec. 19 in Indianapolis, Noon on Fox

BIG TEN WILL NOT HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IF EITHER OHIO STATE OR NORTHWESTERN CAN'T PLAY THIS WEEK

According to the tiebreaking procedures announced by the Big Ten prior to the season, the two division champions would be declared co-champions “if the championship game cannot be played (due to any reason beyond the control of the Big Ten Conference).”

If Northwestern had the same competitive spine as TTUN, they could start making their ‘2020 B1G Co-Champion’ Trophy Case.

I don’t see that happening in Evanston.

I think it behooves us to win convincingly on Saturday. With all of the chirping going on about number of games, etc., I don't think 21-17 makes a good final impression.

The Nerds need trounced.

Does Ohio State need to win in style?
There really don’t appear to be any doomsday scenarios lurking out there for Ohio State right now when it comes to earning a return bid to the College Football Playoff. As long as the Buckeyes handle their business and put their hands on the Big Ten trophy again, that should be enough to punch a ticket to a semifinal game as an undefeated Power-Five champ that quite clearly passes the eye test as well. There will continue to be debate as always this week, but there’s no reason for Day to get involved or plead the case for his program — and he also doesn’t need something like the famous 59-0 closing argument the Buckeyes made in the Big Ten championship in 2014. Perhaps the only area where style points might help Ohio State is by moving up to the second or third seed, but that’s also likely going to happen no matter what with Clemson and Notre Dame guaranteed to produce a loss for one of those teams ahead of it.

Watching the 06 Buckeye NW game and Hartline just caught a TD to go up 27-3. Pimp ass player and ultra pimp ass coach/recruiter. Was in the Bahamas for this game. Not I'm watching snow fall in upstate NY. Honestly love snow though chilling at a resort bar pounding drinks and listening to the waves watching Buckeyes would be ideal

Edit: And yes, doing some Monday day drinking.

I honestly don't see how they score enough to keep this close. Bucks are tough against the run and that or Defense is NW hope. I don't see any for them

That is exactly my thought. NW leans heavily on the run game and we absolutely stuff the run, and I don't see that changing in this game. Their strength is defense but I can't see them holding us to less than 30 points, and I sure as hell do not see them scoring that much. If our talent shows up like it did against MSU, I would put out a prediction of 35-10 (assuming we back to near full strength).

If our talent shows up like it did in the game we were hit with a bunch of DNPs due to Covid. We're so fucking loaded with talent it's insane.

For Northwestern veterans like senior wide receiver Riley Lees, however, playing Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game is nothing new. They already won the Big Ten West and made the trip to Indianapolis to play the Buckeyes in 2018, when they suffered a 45-24 loss to Ohio State in the conference title game. Back then, just making the Big Ten Championship Game was a new accomplishment for the Wildcats, as Northwestern had never played in that game before.

This year, however, they’re not satisfied with just being Big Ten West champions.

“I think last time, we had the approach of we were happy to win the West. But I think our goals have superseded that, and our expectation now is to win the Big Ten championship, and that’s going to be our mindset going into this game,” Lees said Monday.

Northwestern quarterback Peyton Ramsey, who’s set to play in his first Big Ten Championship Game after transferring from Indiana in the offseason, seconded that statement from Lees.

“We’re not just here to compete in this game. We want to win it,” Ramsey said. “And I think there’s a lot of experience here on this roster, the guys that have played (in the Big Ten Championship Game), that are all taking that mindset, and they’re bringing the younger guys with them as well.”

For those who were on the field in 2018, that loss served as motivation for the Wildcats to get back to Indianapolis and get another shot at winning a conference championship, which Northwestern has not done since 2000.

“It’s been 20 years since we’ve been able to win a Big Ten title, so that’s in our sights,” Northwestern linebacker Blake Gallagher said. “We were there in 2018, and didn’t get the job done, and worked our ass off to get back here in 2020 and now we gotta take advantage of the opportunity.”
