B1G CCG: #1 tOSU vs #2 Indiana in Indy, Sat. Dec 6th, 8 ET on FOX

Disappointing but not totally unexpected after watching the first half. Home game for Indiana, who are a legit team. The Buckeyes entered the game a week after the emotional toll of a win in the snow at TCUN and Hartline’s news. It’s a damn shame there is no rest after the TCUN game. I have come around to moving it earlier in the year.

Buckeyes have time to get healthy and ready for the CFP run.

With the way things are going, they might just go away and we go back to co-champs being not uncommon.

Did anyone have a moment where they felt like we were going to win the game? Tbh I never did with the culmination of player errors, bad coaching decisions, bad officiating in crucial moments, and what appeared to be complete confusion and chaos on the offensive side of the ball. I'm upset about the loss to put it lightly, but I'm not shocked we lost. Indiana has a very good team or else we would have won despite the foregoing issues.

The loss feels like a real kick in the pants after it appeared we had really started to gel on both sides of the ball and had a healthy Smith/Tate out there. There were zero answers to stopping IU's pass rush and bad play calls were compounded by poor execution.

I will say on Hartline that as much as I love the guy and think he did his best to prepare the offense for this game, the reality is that he was actively interviewing for jobs and is now preparing for his move to USF. I would never question that his heart is not in the right place, but I'm not sure his head was in this one. I do think it's probably best to have someone else take over his play calling role, the offense was incredibly unprepared and frequently deviated from what has worked all season. He's trying his best and I'm not questioning that, but I think human nature is having him look ahead.

The amount of holds the refs missed on IU was egregious, particularly in critical moments for us. It wasn't totally one-sided, but I would say IU got the better calls or no calls about 75% of the time. Regardless, we should have won despite that.

Moving forward, we'll get our shot at redemption. The pieces are there and the coaches all are familiar with what it takes for a championship. We'll make a go at another title regardless of this game. Go Bucks and I'm off to get some sleep
I thought we would pull it out sure. I didn’t think we’d be shut out in the second half though.

There’s a certain point though in the game where it became obvious. For sure when we missed the field goal I knew but I sort of always knew that this was not the style of game we wanted.

I agree there was a big let down for everyone after the TCUN game. Maybe it’d be different if we got these guys again in the playoffs but I thought we did more to lose the game.

1-3 in the red zone and then gave up our only touchdown on 3rd down too if I recall right?

Just key failures at the wrong time but I think that part is where Indiana deserves credit. Indiana got those 4th down stops and Indiana went out and made that play on 3rd down (multiple times). Both teams missed kicks so I don’t want to put the blame there. I know many will blame Fielding again but he shouldn’t have been in that position if we punch it in like we should’ve

You need to slay the dragon to announce your arrival. Good for the Hoosiers!

Buckeyes played a tough game. Now Julian knows the game is not as easy as he experienced. Hopefully he’ll work harder and get better.

To Hoosiers, we’ll see you again...

Ballsy call and throw by IU.

OL and QB are real problems for this team right now. Julian has been lowering his eyes into the rush even when it doesn't show up. He missed several downfield throws early and Bo on the HB fast flat late.

Right side of the OL was dogged all night. This defense is damn good. But if they can't generate turnovers and short field position, we see that the offense can struggle to be efficient then explosive vs upper tier teams.

We'll see what the playoffs bring. But right now, Indiana is the best team in the country.
The Defense did generate a turnover and short field position. The offense didn't capitalize.

After sleeping on it, not really sure what to think. This could've simply been a battle between the two clear best teams in the country and Indiana made one more play than OSU while the Buckeyes didn't play near their best. I have no more real concerns with the defense. The only playoff team with a better offense than Indiana is Ole Miss, and their defense is ass. Plus there's the whole Kiffin nonsense.

Offense scares me a lot more after this game and it's mainly because of play calling. OL and Sayin didn't play great in the first half but they seemed to settle down in the second half. The red zone play calling in the second half was coaching malpractice and it's something we've seen with Day through out the years. Multiple times with 3rd and 1 in the red zone only to piss it away with a dumbass passing play.

If this was like the Texas game where the lack of execution was more of a problem, I'd feel a lot more confidence going into the playoffs.

At the end of the day, I think the Ohio State coaches just didn’t have enough time to prepare a good gameplan against a good Indiana team that was well coached and had an extra two weeks (Wisconsin, Purdue) to put something together for Ohio State.

The coaches had to deal with signing day and the Chris Henry Jr. drama, they had to deal with the Hartline fallout, and I believe Birm mentioned that Penn State was going after Patritia during the week.

On top of that, the players had to very quickly turn around from an extremely emotional win. Meanwhile, this was the most important game for Indiana in the history of their program. This was the third and least important yearly goal for Ohio State.

That said, when you haven’t had enough time to prepare and you need to fall back on something basic, call the plays with your best players on the field and not the plays with 13 personnel that haven’t worked well all year and, shockingly, didn’t work well last night. That’s still an extremely hard to understand blunder in the midst of all of the other winds blowing against the team.

Edit: the play calling might be partially explained by the coaches being spooked by Tshabola playing so badly… out of all the players, he is by far the biggest drop off in performance when he is motivated and when he is not motivated properly.

Time for Day to earn his money and get the coaches and team ready for a playoff run after that complete dud.

This is why. You attack my football intelligence for some reason.

I played football 2 decades of my life. Literally half my life.

And you’re confused what you did.

There was NO REASON for you to say this.

With that said, go bucks and hopefully someone here tells this dude to relax
Nowhere did I attack your football intelligence. I actually did the opposite.

Run along now.
