California city shuts down girl's lemonade stand | McClatchy

Eight-year-old Daniela Earnest has made lemonade out of lemons in more ways than one this week.
Hoping to raise money for a family trip to Disneyland, the Tulare girl opened a lemonade stand Monday. But because Daniela didn't have a business license, the city of Tulare shut it down the same day.
From that came a radio station's offer of Disneyland tickets to Daniela's family ? in exchange for 30 cups of lemonade ? and an appearance in front of the Tulare City Council on Tuesday night that will likely lead to a compromise allowing her lemonade stand and other pint-sized business ventures to operate legally.

Thought this story was definitely an AYFKM? moment.

Some of the comments are pretty good.

Cop wheeled up on me and my friend and asked if we had a permit for it. When I laughed at him, he told me to "close shop". I was ten.

In Newark?! Preposterous!

I say we trust the judgment of the officer on the scene at the time and not second-guess.

I can certainly understand something like this with regards to the safety consideration; however, needing a permit to sell lemonade (which I typically see no less than 3 a weekend in Oregon) seems a bit fetching.

Dead serious. On the corner of Moull St. and Woods Ave. Here in Newark, right in my yard. The prick parked on the street and watched me take everything inside before he left.
Maybe the coiled copper lines and boiler gave you away.

It's because she wouldn't let her brothers and sisters unionize so they could make 4x what a normal lemonade stand employee would make.

I always look for union grade lemonade - that way you know it's made in America and 2/3rds of the cost goes toward the pension plan of someone who has four 35 minute breaks built into their day.

You need a better spot. That and be discreet... hang some shoes over the telephone wire or something - give the fiends a special knock.

So Tulare City Council will enact an exemption to allow people under a certain age to sell their stuff on a street corner without a license?

Look out Tulare, here comes Jeffcat!

The fiends aren't gonna look that hard for Wyler's Drink Mix. Too many words in the title.
