Autonomy For The 5 "Power Conferences"

First rule of business for Ped State - Reinstate Zombie Joe's Wins.

Maybe you didn't do this intentionally, but this is really funny. And not in a "ha ha" way. More like a very, very sad way. Like, the bridge has collapsed and one busload of orphans has already plummeted into a fiery explosive disaster - let's send in a wagon-load of puppies and kittens and see what that looks like.

"Joe's wins". Not "Penn State's wins while Joe was coach". This is probably the wrong thread for this... ugh, but that's just how those mutants think.

But Joe is Penn State. "We are Penn State." Three manifestations of one God. He is the One and the Four Hundred and Nine. Praise Joesus!

Maryland announces ‘lifetime degree guarantee’ for athletes

Dubbing it “The Maryland Way Guarantee,” the University of Maryland is blazing a trail on which most, if not all, Power Five conference schools will ultimately travel.

The university announced Tuesday morning that, beginning in November of this year, it will offer a lifetime degree guarantee for student-athletes in all sports. Maryland is one of the first, if not the first, to offer such a guarantee in all sports, not just the revenue-producers in football and basketball.
.
.
.
“Our vision is to be the best intercollegiate athletic program while producing graduates who are prepared to serve as leaders in the local, state and global communities,” athletic director Kevin Anderson said in a statement. “We are confident ‘The Maryland Way Guarantee’ will further demonstrate our commitment to our student-athletes’ pursuit of a college degree.”

The school described the parameters of the program as follows:

Beginning in November of 2014-15, ‘The Maryland Way Guarantee’ will provide all incoming student-athletes with a multi-year scholarship guarantee. Pursuant to this program, should a student-athlete exhaust his or her eligibility prior to graduating, Maryland will guarantee his or her aid will continue through graduation. If a student-athlete is injured and unable to compete, we will guarantee his or her aid will continue through graduation.

Additionally, Maryland will provide tuition, books and fees for any student-athlete who leaves the institution in good academic standing and returns to complete his or her degree.

It's certainly not the only way I associate JP with a cover-up, but it's interesting the billboard designers chose to go there.

As for associating JP with "honor", well...not so much.

(These bastards are relentless, aren't they? They're just never going to let it go. Gives me a sick feeling that they may one day succeed.)

Most Power Five wins since 2009? Tide, Ducks, Bucks

Not surprisingly, a who’s who of college football elites have been very successful in the won-loss ledger over the last half-decade plus a year.

In a note sent out by the fine folks in the Wisconsin sports information department — it’s truly one of the best SIDs in the country — Alabama has 72 wins over the past six seasons, the most for any Power Five team in the country. Oregon is the only other team with at least 70 wins, with the Ducks hitting exactly that mark from 2009-14.

The next five in order are Ohio State (67)*, Florida State (65), Stanford (62), LSU (61) and UW (60).

* might be #1 if it weren't for the 2011 season.

Irish, UCLA, Vols, Vandy return most P5 starters for 2015

If you are in the camp of returning starters equating to success, then get some money down on Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee and Vanderbilt post-haste.

According to numbers provided by the esteemed Phil Steele in his 2015 Spring Guide, the Irish return 19 starters — 9 offensively, 10 defensively — which, for the moment, is the most of any Power Five team. The other three schools return 18 starters for the 2015 season. The Vols and Bruins return 10 starters each on offense, while the Commodores return nine on each side of the ball. Michigan, North Carolina, Baylor and Texas Tech are right behind that trio, though, with 17 returners apiece.

It should be noted that, of the seven teams mentioned thus far, three of them weren’t bowl-eligible with those starters in 2014: the Commodores, Red Raiders and Wolverines :slappy:.

Of the four College Football Playoff participants, defending champion Ohio State returns the most with 15 (nine offense/six defense); that number would jump to 17 if all three quarterbacks who started games in 2014 were included :boogie:. Oregon is next up in that group with 12 (7/5), while Alabama (4/7) and Florida State (4/7), which both lost in the semifinals, have 11 each returning.
