Surprisingly, Greg Norman Estates puts out some pretty good wines. They are a little pricier than the Lindemans etc. Penfolds has some good ones too. I agree w/ the others, There are so many good west coast wines to choose from I would stick there.

Go to a good wine shop they can lead you to whatever you think she wants. Gentiles on King Ave has always been good to me, The Andersons as previously mentioned, and I have heard they have some knowlegdeable people at the new Whole Foods as well.

My brother was at some dinner party with a winery owner from New Zealand a couple years ago, and the guy ended up sending my brother a case of wine which was quite good. Now, if I could only remember what it was... I'll have to ask him and let you know.

German Rieslings tend to be really good ('01 was a really good year... however like other whites it's better to drink them young than old).

I have family that lives in Australia... they swear they have the best wine in the world!!! I've had a few bottles and I must admit they do a good job. Shiraz is really big out there, they also have some wonderful desert wines... I'll need to get back with you on specific brands...

The have made a push to use caps on their white wines. The bottles open just like twisting off a cap from a coke bottle. roughly 1/15 to 1/20 of the corks are cut wrong/inserted badly/ bad cork/etc... so a capping system helps keep a higher percentage of bottles from being ruined by the cork. Some companies have tried the artificial corks however the material ruins the bottling machines, so until they fix that problem we are left with corks or caps...

I meant to throw that in... don't be scared of caps. They use them widely in germany as well.

Speaking of which...

This is a whole different route you could take... get her some 375mL ice wines-- there are probably some Vidal based niagara region wines at a store near you, or dessert fruit wines... it would be an interesting change for her.

I've been drinking Ice wine like its my job lately.:wink2:

or Ice wine like Molson Ice. either one sounds good.

My father owned a liquor carry-out in Lancaster for 30 years.

I remember Champale. :biggrin:

It's funny that in the 70's, the product tanked. In the 90's, they renamed it Zima and the market suddenly exploded.
