Where do the Buckeyes stand with Aundrey Walker?
The big man from Glenville has been rumored to Michigan State, Ohio State, FSU, and most recently, USC. Bucknuts recruiting guru Gary Hosteau believed that Walker was headed to USC as late as yesterday. Housteau knows his stuff and has connections to Glenville High School, but there are reasons to doubt the veracity of this report.
For one, this is the Glenville game. Every single year, without fail, a Glenville athlete is rumored to be leaning elsewhere yet ultimately ends up at Ohio State. The only one to break that mold was Cordale Scott, who committed to Illinois in 2008 over Ohio State. Cordale transferred to Toledo a year later, and Ted Ginn Sr. now uses him as a cautionary tale to his players. The second factor in Ohio State's favor is Mrs. Walker. Aundrey's father passed away when he was 14 years old, and he's been the man of the house since that time. Aundrey and his mother have a close relationship, and it's hard to see him going 2,000 miles away to attend school in Los Angeles.
Of course, Walker could genuinely be in love with USC and commit there on Wednesday. But it's hard to believe based on past Glenville recruits. Whatever happens, we'll know tonight. Walker and the rest of the Glenville group will make their decisions known around 8 p.m.
Cliff says: Walker is trying awfully hard to make people think he's actually going to pick USC. Almost as hard as he tried to get people to think he was going to Michigan State after visiting there. It's been the typical Glenville recruitment complete with multiple leaders and plenty of misdirection. I still see him at Ohio State after the ink is dry.
Tyler says: Glenville players have made fools out of opposing fanbases for years now. Marcus Hall was supposed to be a Hurricane, Ray Small was supposed to be a Trojan, and Troy Smith should have been a Mountaineer. But they were all Buckeyes, and I expect the same from Aundrey Walker.

A lot of moms say that, until it comes time to actually do it...

Scout $ - Trojans or Buckeyes?

From the USC site...down to two...says it's a win-win situation...talks about how much Coach Orgeron stressed things other than football.

Like how to avoid getting yourself mugged in Watts and South Central.

Seriously, USC off-campus is a mess. There are things to do and enjoy in Southern California (one of my favorite places I've lived), if you have a car and a full tank of gas. The I-5, 805, 405, and 605 are a pure joy to get around town at or even near rush hour.

Amongst the LA schools, UCLA is situated in a much better area. Of course, USC has its perks.

But when USC provides a job and provides the housing for said mom then it becomes more realistic. Wait, they wouldn't do that.......again.

Honestly, I think it is a miracle schools like Ohio State get high school kids to live in a place like Ohio when they could go to school on the west coast. Don't get me wrong, it could be worse and Ohio has its perks... but going to school within driving distance of mountains and beaches would be fun.

I understand a lot goes into recruiting, but it sure would be nice not to have to deal with snow and ice for a few years. *Looks outside at the sheet of ice on the ground.*

When the Ohio school is led by Jim Tressel and the western school is led by Lane Kiffin I think that more than levels the playing field.:oh:
