Four Auburn players arrested for pot won’t face game suspensions

In the end, an offseason incident involving a quartet of Auburn football players won’t end up causing the early portion of their upcoming season to go up in smoke.

At the SEC Media Days Monday, head coach Gus Malzahn confirmed that the four players arrested earlier this offseason, defensive end Byron Cowart, defensive back Carlton Davis (pictured), wide receiver Ryan Davis and defensive back Jeremiah Dinson, will not miss any playing time as a result of the incident. The four players were arrested by the Auburn police department in early May and charged with one count each of second-degree possession of marijuana.

The four players were disciplined internally, although Malzahn declined to discuss the details of those punitive measures.

He probably suspended them from the baseball team for a couple days.....8D

Auburn dismisses Jovon Robinson, Tigers’ leading returning rusher

With the departure of leading rusher Peyton Barber, Jovon Robinson was expected to take over the bulk of Auburn’s carries in the running game. After today’s developments? Never mind.

Earlier today it was reported that Robinson was nowhere to be seen as the Tigers’ kicked off summer camp with their first practice in preparation for the start of the 2016 season. After that practice, head coach Gus Malzahn dropped the bombshell: Robinson has been dismissed from the football program.

The running back was informed of the coach’s decision this morning.

“He didn’t meet my standards or expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player,” Malzahn said. “We are going to have zero distractions on this team this year. I have given him his release and welcome him the best.”

Matthews' famous whiff on Fournette tackle 'a business decision'

The famous image of Matthews jumping over LSU running back Leonard Fournette on a tackle attempt late in the first half of Auburn's 45-21 loss last season made the rounds on the Internet and became fodder for college football fans.

Matthews, however, wants to set the record straight.

"That’s not me at all," he said, reflecting on the play with a sense of self-deprecating humor. "When I was going in -- and that was my first game back from popping my shoulder out of place -- actually didn’t hit that whole week and I ain’t gonna lie that was probably the worst feeling I ever had in my life when I popped my shoulder out of place. Going into that game, I really didn’t know what I was going to do. I saw him coming and I was, like, it was kinda like a business decision because I didn’t want to pop my shoulder all the way out of place and miss the whole season. I was like, OK, let me hit him up high and try to grab him and bring him down. I actually jumped too high. My adrenaline was running."

In which case he wasn't healthy enough to play and shouldn't have been on the field.
