Auburn 38, Northwestern 35 (final, OT) Outback Bowl

I was rooting for the Big Ten representative, and hated the call to fake it when a chip shot I could make which would have tied the game, but the right team won. It was good heart shown by the Cats, which they deserved some credit for, but ultimately it was the Tigers' self destruction and playing not to lose which allowed comeback to occur in the first place. :tongue2:

Good on the Nittanies for reppin' the conference though.

Now if the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes win, the Big 11 would have won the games against the top 4 ranked opponents, which is really what matters. It would have been nice to win this one though.

The purple fans can't even resort to their fallback "that's alright, that's ok, we're gonna be your boss someday"

Why's that? Because an Auburn degree doesn't even get you a job.

Not to piss on a good joke, but Auburn is actually one of the most academically touted universities in the SEC, hell the country.
Absolutely. That's why when I bought my sociology degree in the mail, I ordered it from Auburn.

I'll grant that they aren't a bad school, but I'm not sure "most academically touted in the SEC" is the way I would phrase it if I'm talking up a school.

That's what James Brooks tried to do, but he couldn't sign for it when it arrived via FedEx.

Northwestern kicker Stefan Demos doesn't let Outback Bowl nightmare get him down

By Teddy Greenstein
Tribune reporter
January 11, 2010

Outfitted prominently in a walking boot and black shirt with a purple "N" logo, he chatted with university President Morton Schapiro and sat at halfcourt for an interview with WGN-AM 720.

You might have envisioned Stefan Demos entering the Witness Security Program after missing that game-winner in the Outback Bowl, but he has taken the opposite tact since returning to campus.

Is there something you want to tell NU's feisty, personable kicker? Have at it.

Last week while dining in Evanston, Demos heard a man holler at him about missing the field goal. Demos approached him and said: "Feel free to vent, but there's nothing you can say that changes the way I feel."

Demos expected the twentysomething guy to back off, but he kept firing away.

"That caught me off guard," Demos said. "I finally told him: 'There's no way you'd make a 44-yard field goal,' and then I walked off."

Demos, though, is quick to point out that "for every idiot, there have been 10-15 on the other side."

Sure, Demos noticed a Facebook group that planned to petition to get him kicked off the team. He said he thought about joining it just to get a reaction.

Cont'd ...

I thought it was funny that Auburn fans were chanting "SEC!" after beating Northwestern. Indiana doesn't even chant anything after a win over NW.
The only reason the Auburn fans did that was because there were some Northwestern kids there to teach them how to spell S-E-C.

...or with a single option on the play.

...or with a DL responsible for the key edge block

Love the call...hate the design.

If the two guys on the right edge would have moved upfield a step or two after the snap, I think the guy would have scored, even if they didn't make good blocks - they stayed standing up too long to sell the misdirection, and the two defenders didn't have to go around them.

I like this guy. Somebody should invite him to join BP.
