This game does look great and I may get it. My question to anybody here is that do I need to play the other Assassins Creed games to understand what's going on? I have never played any of them and may play them before this game comes out.

I played ACII before the first one and have played Brotherhood and Revelations since. There is a ton of back-story for sure, but they do a good job catching you up. I would recommend playing them because they are good games, but you'll probably be just fine.

It would help. Each game always gives a short rundown of what has gone on, but probably better to either play the game or check out one of the many summaries online.

As for the games, I find them enjoyable but a little long. They take 20 or so hours to complete, and honestly they should be more like 10 or 15 hour games. You will find the first one particularly repetitive, and often there is just way too much filler. To finish them I often have to put the game down for a little while and come back days or weeks later.
