Arkansas 50, LSU 48 (FINAL - 3 OT)

I will say that Jacob Hester is the MVP for LSU this whole season. Our defense just didn't come through when it should have.

And we are way too talented of a team to struggle putting points on Arkansas.

However, I take nothing away from Arkansas, they played a great game and McFadden is the best player in college football (my apologies to Tebow, Wells etc)

Hester would be a good choice, or if not him, the linebacker for you guys who had 18 tackles (number 7 I think, I can't remember his name)....

Tough loss for you guys. I kinda thought once you tied it up in regulation that you'd win it in OT.

Dorsey's a warrior. He probably shouldn't even have played with that injury, but last game at Tiger Stadium, national championship on the horizon etc so he was in. But if you saw all his games prior to the injuries, you will see that he just doesn't have the same explosiveness he had early in the season. But he never ever takes plays off, I don't know where you got that from. Even when playing hurt he's giving it his all, it's just that they still double team him every play and there's only so much you can do.

But yes, I will agree that our defense as a whole is overrated. Our line did not get consistent pressure and all the wishbone formations and everything had the defense confused the entire game.

As for trolls, what can you do... There are idiots in every fan base, including LSU's. I just ignore them... they're the type to talk a whole lot when their team wins or yours loses, but suddenly disappear when their team loses.

Good luck to you guys, looks like I'll be seeing some scarlet and gray in the French Quarter in January.

I got that from seeing #72 standing around watching someone else make the play 10 yards downfield (that is, when he wasn't completely invisible). One tackle, five assists, zero sacks, zero TFL's - not exactly a game-changing performance from a finalist for the Lombardi, Outland, Bednarik, and Nagurski Awards. And by the way, Arkansas wasn't afraid to run right at Dorsey, and they did it with success, netting 385 yards on the ground (well over 300 of those yards were in regulation).

LSU is a good team, but does anyone else go crazy every time they hear LSU is the most talented team in the country?

I base talent on the NFL draft. I don't think theres any better way than to see who NFL GM's think are the best players in college. That being said:

Ohio State, according to Mel Kiper of Juniors and Seniors has:
  • A top 2 cornerback and top 15 pick in Malolm Jenkins (also likes Cason of UA a lot)
  • The best Linebacker in the country and top 15 pick in James Laurinitis
  • After Michigan game, said Gholston may be the best DE in college and a definite first rounder
  • A first round tackle, probably the second tackle taken if he leaves in Alex Boone
4 first round picks, LSU will definately have 2 (Dorsey and Doucet if Doucet leaves) maybe 3

There isn't another team in the country that can boost the top player in the secondary, linebacker corps, and at defensive end

You want to talk about talent, talk about OSU....we're in a Golden Era right now

Ali Highsmith played a great game, although Hillis caught the TD over him on the wheel route (good coverage, great throw).

I think the big downfall for this team amounted to two things:

1) The speculation over the tsun job, whether anyone wants to accept it in the south, it was a distraction. The players and the coach were constantly getting asked something that related to that, and the players had to wonder if they were going to get "John L Smith"ed during their bowl game, calls on the sidelines saying "your coach is gone!"

2) Last nights celebration of the "best LSU team ever." For those of you that don't know, they had a rally last night where they celebrated all of the records set, all of the stuff the senior class had done, and basically built them up to be unbeatable. In my opinion, this showed a lot in the first half, they expected Arkansas to just roll over, but the hogs came to play. There's still two games to go, these kids haven't won a national title, hell, they haven't even won an SEC title, how can you tell them how great they are?

Now, going into the SEC title game you have the fans upset with the coach, if the coach has another offer he's deffinately gone, and the players think they "lost it all." The big question is can they get up for the SEC title game and actually go out with at least an SEC title ring? Or are they so deflated that it's all over?

I'd like to add another reason.

The Hogs wanted to get some redemption for last year's lost to LSU.
(Last year, the Hogs were top 5 and thinking NC)

He. was. playing. hurt. When you play hurt, you can still give a 100% effort but your body just cannot do what it normally does. Like I said before, he probably shouldn't have been playing.

Also, billmac91, yes Ohio St is a very talented team. But the draft argument doesn't help too much and I personally don't like that to evaluate talent anyway. I could easily point to last year's draft, LSU had 4 in the 1st, Ohio St had 2. This year Ohio St will most likely have 4, LSU 2, maybe 4 if Tyson Jackson decides to leave and Ali Highsmith has great combine workouts. But like I said, it's a bad way to judge talent because some guys are just great college players but not meant for the NFL. There's no clear way to judge who is the most talented team in the country... everyone claims theirs is, but in all honesty it's pretty even. The schools who end up high on the recruiting lists are usually the ones who have the most talent and are considered the best teams in the land. Unless your school is Notre Dame.

OCBucksFan, I agree the celebration was pre-mature. But it was also the seniors' last game in Tiger Stadium and they were the most successful class maybe ever at LSU. But yes, the entire team, even the crowd, looked very complacent during the first half and Arkansas came out with a lot more fire under them... I think there was a revenge factor for last year, plus it looked like the players really rallied behind Houston Nutt, whose future is questionable.

Wow! Didn't see the game , but this was a bit of a surprise.
This helps, big time!:groove:
And finally, the SEC is a not as good as the SEC fans say.
LSU has been living on the edge and it caught up to them when they least could afford to lose.

LSU's title bid scuttled by Arkansas

Saturday, November 24, 2007 3:04 AM
By Brett Martel

Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU's national title hopes were crushed by a Heisman-worthy performance.
Darren McFadden rushed for three touchdowns and threw for a score to lift Arkansas to a 50-48, three-overtime victory over the top-ranked Tigers yesterday.
Peyton Hillis also scored three TDs, the last in the third overtime. Felix Jones ran for the critical two-point conversion to make it 50-42 for the Razorbacks (8-4, 4-4).
LSU (10-2, 6-2) responded when Matt Flynn found Brandon LaFell for a 9-yard TD, but Matterral Richardson intercepted the two-point conversion pass attempt, and Arkansas' bench emptied onto the field in triumph, having ending the nation's longest home winning streak at 19 games.
