2. PSU 964
3. scUM 951
t4. Iowa 950

6. Wisky 944
7. OSU 942
8. Ill 930
9. Minny 927
10. MSU 926
11. Purdue 920

I'm surprised Iowa is so high. I thought I remembered them being on the bubble the last time and they've had numerous suspensions and players kicked off the team since then.

Only 6 I-A schools were on the Recognition Awards list for football.

Non-BCS
Rice
US Naval Academy
US Air Force Academy

BCS
Stanford
Duke
and Rutgers?

Big ups to RU, hangin with the academic big dogs.

Funny how our friends in Evanston like to talk a big game about their academic excellence but they can't make that list or do anything on the field either.

Those 3 BCS teams are all better than NU in football as well as the APR.

I am surprised to see PSU that high. I figured with all the off-the-field issues, they'd be suffering in the classroom as well.

That would require that they actually kick a guy off the team. :slappy:

Only 9 points seperate 3-7 and we send a lot more kids to the NFL than those teams so I'm fine with that ranking.

No one is ever going to beat NU.

I remember a few decades ago in Ohio Stadium, while beating Northwestern by several touchdowns, there fans would chant something like:

We don't care, that's OK,
They're be working for us someday!!!

I know UF is a good school, but Vandy 3rd? If this is just who can keep their jocks eligible statistic why aren't we any better than we are? I'm confused after seeing this.

I would be proud to call Greg Schiano my football coach. He's probably my favorite coach that doesn't wear a sweatervest.

NCAA: Teams could face harsh penalties for poor academics

By Michael Marot
Associated Press

Wednesday, May 07, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS ? NCAA president Myles Brand wants college teams concerned as much about academic scores as final scores. If they aren't, they might be barred from NCAA tournaments.
Brand warned the underachievers Tuesday, May 6, they could get hit with the NCAA's harshest sanctions ? fewer scholarships, reductions in practice and even postseason bans. Nearly 150 teams face potential scholarship losses and another 26 are on the brink of a postseason ban because of poor academics.
"Academic reform is here to stay, and those penalties resemble what we give for major infractions. So these are serious penalties, and there are a number of teams that received those," Brand said after releasing this year's Academic Progress Report. "Yes, there are individual institutions who have seen a steady decline (academically) over the last four years, and for them, the situation is dire."
Brand was mostly pleased with what he saw in the report.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Men's basketball is one of two Ohio State sports not to meet the 925 benchmark in the latest Academic Progress Rates released today by the NCAA. The other sport is rifle, which is not subject to penalties because of a squad-size adjustment.
