Depends on how impatient you are for 4G. Sprint is aggressively expanding. I don't know when Cbus is on plan, but even if it's a year away, 3G speeds for now with unlimited data may be worth it. Having said that, VZW's 4G is fantastic and stable; if you are comfortable with a tiered data plan, you may not care.

Yeah, I'm still going to watch some speed videos for the i5 on Youtube for comparison. The unlimited data is nice, but my blackberry is on 3G and it's painfully slow (admittedly, it could be because I'm using a fucking blackberry  )

Apple Maps are a disaster in some areas. I hope they get it fixed asap.

I'm only one person, but Maps worked great for me when I tested it on the way home from work. It was accurate and easy to use. It gave the proper route, and when I deviated it quickly gave a sensible re-route. It was much snappier than other navigation apps I've used on iPhones. It's also very easy to read the screen on the move.

I've read that it draws mostly on Yelp for POIs, and that's one area where it's lacking compared to Google Maps. Hopefully that part comes around as more people start adopting iOS 6 and Maps.

I'm amazed - it's only been a day and people have already forgotten how shit the old Maps app was. It was great for POIs, but it was lousy and even dangerous to use if you were using it while driving. I only used it for reference before I'd start a trip or if I were a passenger rather than the driver.

I also get a kick out of Google employees laughing at Apple over this. They wouldn't be laughing if they saw the ridiculous route that their app gave me to get from the 9th Ave. Garage to Schmidt's last weekend. There was also the time this summer when I was in Baltimore looking for a pizza place and it directed me to a highway overpass two miles away from the restaurant. They had a seven year head start on this whole maps thing, too.

These things take time, and nobody's maps are 100% perfect. This is a pretty ambitious undertaking by Apple, and I'm anxious to see where this goes. In the meantime, I hope they approve Google's 3rd party app, so we all have choices.

This all reminds me of how Waze was starting out. A couple years ago, Waze was shit. I tried it and ditched it for a while. Nowadays though it's pretty damn good and I've been using it regularly.

And honestly, if you're going to rely on your phone for navigation, it's probably a good idea to have more than one app on your phone for that purpose. With two or three different apps, you're more likely to cover the gaps in each.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited for Apple Maps and navigation (FINALLY!), I enjoyed google maps, but other than the POI's on google it was lacking. Apple maps looks beautiful, just hoping it works as advertised!

Now that Apple maps will be using Yelp like jlb said, it's only a matter of time until users start to add POI's and I'm hoping that it builds quickly.

I think that's most of the problem. Much of the Yelp POI info is crowdsourced, and as a long time Yelp user I don't think much care has been put into it. That's how you get into some of the issues that are showing up for people, with misspelled and misnamed landmarks.

If Apple is serious about their Maps platform and plan to properly support it, then they need to have full-time people working on POIs - editing the existing stuff from Yelp and making additions and refinements of their own.

Waze's crowdsourced info has mostly worked because they seem to have a strong group of what are essentially moderators and editors who care about the information. Yelp as far as I can tell doesn't have that. Their staff and user-leaders seem to be more involved with promoting businesses and events and trying to convince people to write reviews. That's fine for Yelp because that's their core business, but if Apple is going to use that information for Maps then there has to be some layer of oversight for how that data is used in their platform.
