?We?ll uuush the built in navigation opshhion.? I have a Licensh to Navigate.
Now demoing a variety of sounds. Some audio trouble it looks like... not quite doing what it should.
Their app connects and iPhone to an amp to a guitar and adds a load of amp effects.
Reserving works by simply setting the time you need it. Tapping a horn icon actually activates the car’s horn.
This should be handy for Zipcar users. We'll be using it to find Zipcars to crush with our monster truck.
Luke Schneider from Zipcar. "We're excited to introduce our app today. Jonathan (who is demoing the app) doesn't own a car. The application immediately locates him, and it shows him where the nearby Zipcar locations are."
Tapping the unlock button actually unlocks the car. It’s pretty cool.
11:43AM "We think you'll love 3.0 -- it's free for iPhone users, $9.95 for touch users. And it will be available June 17th."
Android has almost 5,000 apps, which is quite a lot.
Blackberry about 1k, Palm Pre has 18. 50,000 for apple.
The phone’s back is still glossy, apparently.
It has “the same great design of the iPhone 3G”
This is another semi-upgrade. The iPhone 3Gs. I'll wait for the 4g.Launching messaging is 2.1x faster, loading SimCity is 2.4x faster, viewing Excel 3.6x faster, loading NY Times 2.9x faster.
The 3GS now supports OpenGL|ES. It also supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.
The new 3GS includes a 3MP autofocus camera.
Autofocus, Autoexposure. Tap to Focus, too, allowing you to focus and change white balance on the fly.
Autofocus brings in Auto Macro as well, as close as 10cm away.
An API allows developers to use all of these features in their apps.
And Apple finally catches up to the era before Charlie Weis, when such technology was found on non-smart phones. It also captures video.
You can also trim video with “the tap of a finger.”
"And you can share it with anyone, I can tap share and send it in an email... if my carrier supports it, I can send as an MMS." Nice jab at AT&T.
"Best of all for devs, there's an API for this. Build video capture right into your apps."
“Wouldn’t it be great to dial friends and family just from the sound of your voice?” Yeah, you mean like in phones that have been out for years?
You can make calls with your voice, you can control your iTunes by voice.
You can also control iPod playback by talking. “Play songs by the Killers.” Playlists work like that, too.
You can ask your iPhone “what’s playing now” and get a response.
There’s also a built-in digital compass. One guy goes crazy. “A cool compass fan out there,” says Phil.
It shows your orientation, longitude and latitude, and can link right to Google maps – which will orient to the way you are facing.
11:58AM Also a greener device. 23% smaller packaging.
11:58AM Up to 5 hours 3G talk time, 9 hours of WiFI internet.
11:57AM "All this... and yet we've improved battery life as well."

June 19th in the US.
In a tough economy, I see no need for 3G owners to upgrade. I'm waiting for the 4G to switch, and I really like Apple.

Uh ... er ... you can browse, email, and play tunes all at once on the iPhone.jwinslow;1479757; said:Yup, lots of good stuff here. When the 32GB 4G iPhone is $200, with newer hardware (processor, multi-tasking, video-chat), dramatically faster networks (4G network, not just model name), and more third-party support (the shift to on-demand is happening - Netflix/Hulu/etc), I think that will be the perfect time to switch over.
For now, I'll stick with my blackberry which can handle browsing, emailing, playing tunes all at once. I'll take the functional business device and wait for a more well rounded media device from Apple.
My blackberry is also free and given me two years of use, with better push support from what I've read.Dryden;1479794; said:Uh ... er ... you can browse, email, and play tunes all at once on the iPhone.
