Anyone out there practice/train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Just wondering. Had my first class today and absolutely LOVE this stuff. I have wrestled for over 12 years, and just love the added dimensions to ground fighting BJJ brings. Its a great workout too.

Hell, I never even heard of it until I was watching Fight Science:MMA a couple of weeks ago. Nasty stuff.

I want to do Krav Maga with my boys. Looks like the best pure self-defense out there.

Not as of yet. My daughter has an instructer lined up for Pencak Silat and Krav Maga when she reaches her black belt in Taekwondo.

Does she intend to coninue her TKD training?

I understand the desire to understand other systems and to learn a little about a lot as opposed to a lot about a little. I just think there is opportunity to do both.

In TKD specifically, as well as with other MA's making it to Black Belt is typically viewed not as an end goal, but the first step in development. The thing is development post Black Belt (or first dan have you) is more internal. That is you typically pick up the crux of physical skills in the pre first dan range, you start to develop more leadership/instructional skills post first dan.

Don't get me wrong, you will improve your physical skills post first dan, its just that you start changing the scope of what TKD is about.

She won't leave TKD. But she wants to reach a level proficiency in that first before she moves on to try other systems. She''l be a brown belt this spring. She understands black belt isn't an end, its an indicator that you are a now a serious student.
