Buckeye in Blacksburg
I was out to dinner tonight, so I kind of had it in my head after seeing it on the menu (italian resturant). I was just wondering if anyone here ate it, because I know that a lot of people, me being one, don't eat it because of the way it is made, and the animal abuse that goes into it.

If you are not familiar with the process of producing veal, heres the link-

http://www.britishmeat.com/veal.html

I know a lot of people aren't really concerned with animal abuse or things like that, but I think it's pretty sickening and this is only a tiny example of a lot of screwed-up things that screwed-up people do in this world.

Veal is one of my favorite meats, but not being an animal activist, I question how much misery they are actually enduring.

yeah i mean i wouldn't call myself an "animal activist" either, but i've always grown up with pets and having them around all the time with a mom who is a big animal lover, so I just began to be alot more consciences about things like that, then alot of other people might be.

Well - did you order the Oso Buco or not?

ha no actually i got rigatoni with chicken and manasala (im not much of a cook, but i think thats what the menu said it was called). And don't get me wrong about the veal thing, im no vegaterian. I eat meat probably more than the average human being. In fact I have a hard time getting by on fridays during lent.

I tryed it once because of how it is made. Sick and twisted i'm well aware, but my thought process was, 'wow this has to be some damn good meat if they can justify that kind of animal treatment'. I didn't like it though.

I have to admit I eat veal saltimboca every now and again.

Also, just about all of us that ever eat a decent meatloaf eat veal. It usually has beef, some pork, and veal in it. Veal is the "special" ingredient in good meatloafs. . .

Anyone ever eat fois gras?

Now that is sick. . .

How is this treatment any different than how other animals are treated?

You wanna talk inhumane. Look at the way that they kill cows. They shoot them in the head with a nail gun(Modified, it drives a spike into the head and retracts). That can't be painless.

Uh, do you keep your pet in a cage so small that it can't even turn around or lie down, feed it a deficient diet, and never ever let it out? If you did that to a dog or cat, you probably be arrested for animal cruelty. Cows raised for other purposes (milk, normal beef, etc.) are treated far, far better.

By the way, being killed by a nail gun in the head is indeed painless because it instantaneously damages the very thing that allows you to feel pain...the brain (of which you are apparently lacking.)
