This is what drives me nuts about gas prices. Last week it was around $1.85 then it goes to $2.08 on Thursday. Tuesday night it went down to $1.97 this morning it went to $2.13. The price changing just doesn't make sense.

Another take though on the price of gas is to consider what it takes to make a gallon of gas including prospecting, drilling, collecting, refining, shipping, etc. before it gets too your tank. Add on approximately 50 cents a gallon in taxes depending on where you live and then think about the price. Consider the following as well:

O.J. - $4.00 a gallon
Water - over $1.00 a liter
Milk - $2.86 a gallon
Pepto Bismo would cost close to $40 a gallon

I see your point, however I buy two gallon jugs of water for about $0.50 (25 cents a gallon)... also you must be purchasing the expensive O.J. not on sale, you can pick that stuff up for much cheaper as well (when on sale)...

The EPA requires different gas formulations in various areas to keep pollution down. I don't know the exact areas, but I'm pretty sure most areas which require emission checks on their vehicles, pay more for "anti-pollution" gas. If there is a shortage of the "special" gas, prices in those areas can be quite a bit higher. Still, doesn't explain the drastic price changes we've been seeing, I blame price gouging for that. Just wait until the gas companies come out with their annual reports, I bet several will have record profits.

I didn't see these gas tracking sites posted yet. If you're in the central Ohio area you can track gas prices using www.columbusgasprices.com
www.gaspricewatch.com can be used to track around the country.

Both of these sites rely on users to report local prices so they may or may not have listings close to you.

Paid $1.87 today at a Mobile. Quite frankly, so what? I wouldn't care if it was $4.00 a gallon. Its all relative. Get a tax rebate of $400 last year and tom daschele and the whinners on the left call it not even enough to buy a muffler. Pay higher gas prices that amount to $400 more per year and tom daschele and the whinners on the left calls it the end of the world for average Americans. What a bunch of negative douche bags.
