  • I've got two similar laptops configured about the same both running Win 2000. One is fine. The other seems slow at everything. Opening programs, closing or opening windows that sort of thing. Thoughts,? I know you guys will have some ideas. Thanks in advance.

Well this is just my opinion, but if you can get XP on em, I would do it. 2000 is slower than shit in general.

But besides that point, how much ram does the slow one have? It may need some anti-spyware stuff run on it, cause any of that kinda crap running in the background will really slow it down. Maybe run ad-aware, spybot, and antivirus, etc.

Slower one has 97 meg faster one has 130. I don't think that is the difference though. I run ad aware regularly on both. Only difference I can see is when you look in task manager the slower one is running alot more stuff, alot more. Services.exe sometimes runs at like 75 % CPU usage is frequently 100%. I'm stupid so I don't know which ones I can stop. A few are listed like 4 or 5 times! I don't have access to XP, my desktop has it but the HP disks it came with wont' let you work on any other computer.
