is it possible to lock the site down for only members. today the site was nearly unusuable, with the load i would anticipate weds i for see major problems. just a thought, i dont know if the software even allows it. maybe a 48 hr lock down for members only...it kind of defeats the purpose i know, but it may keep the site usuable. i also think it would increase membership...though this to may not necessarily be a good thing.

If it is possible I think only Clarity can do it and he's MIA right now unfortunately. It has been talked about and I think it woulda been a great idea.

I was wondering the same thing to myself yesterday. However I still think the answer to the problem it to donate to Clarity for a new server. Anyone know how much those things cost?

You are correct SIMV the long term answer is a new server. Mid-sized servers aren't terribly expensive, but the one Clarity wants to get to handle the satts engine load is rather large and expensive.

Oddly, I'm finding this thread only after I've closed off the site to guests.

Would have done this sooner, just haven't been around. But it's done now. It will make a difference, but it's not a fix. As stated above, we have to be on a new machine soon.

SIMV, Clarity was only on the site briefly to do some administrative stuff. Left a PM for all the mods saying as much and that he didn't have the time to check his PMs. So if you got a resonse, count yourself lucky.

Thump, I believe the average donation during the last fundraising drive was in the 20-30 dollar range.
