only 6 mos earlier than originally anticpated (if we're looking at June)... the shitty thing is that he had done such a nice job and the last 2 years had to suck so badly....

I agree, Akak..he's a great guy and has done a great job but I kept hearing he was gonna take the fall for this..just the kind of guy he is. Now, I'm a little nervous about Tressel.

I truly fear what Holbrook will dream up to replace him. After the booze crackdowns and her ever present agenda to make sports less important at Ohio State, I can see her appointing herself as AD and dissolving the football program and using the stadium for taping the Antique Roadshow and Barry Manilow concerts.

Geiger has always had a way of diplomatically letting people have it in press-conferences and other comments, and I hope he really lets the ESPiNs and NYTimes of the sports media world have it! Archie Griffin makes the most sense for his eventual replacement, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear AG recommend him.
Tibor, calling someone a cheater when they haven't cheated is dragging that person's name through the mud. "Cheater" to AG is equivalent to drug-addict or wife-beater.

this really sucks. im fairly pissed about this announcement.
i truely hope that espin comes to columbus for the texas game now. however, i hope they leave herbie and corso at home and send mark and trev in their places. nothing like a good old fashioned lynchin to spur on a home win!
seriously though, couple this announcement with everything that has been going on... i don't see how we could bring espin back to columbus in all consciousness. to call the environment "hostile" is about as gross an understatement as one can make. an all out apology from espin may not be able to sooth the rage at this point.

This could be used as an opportunity to quell the rumor that Geiger is being forced out, by announcing that he will retire, but on some future date.
They could also use this as a platform to blast ESPN. Imagine, LIVE, on ESPN's own air, a scathing counterattack!!! And ESPN would have to air the whole thing!!! God, I can only hope and pray....

Apologize? Are you kidding? Shelley Smith is probably on a plane to Columbus right now to record the teases for the 6pm, 11pm, and 1am editions of SportsCenter, the producers are writing 5 Fact or Fiction questions for Mark and Trev, Jeremy Shapp is taping his Outside The Lines spots with Tom Friend right now, and Ivan Maisel is writing an article on how the scandals at his alma mater, Alabama, weren't ever this bad!

Geiger did a great job for tOSU...
Archie seems logical right away, but I have my doubts. JT has the experience but no way he gets the nod in the middle of this storm.

I think Geiger was about ready to retire anyway... As for his wife crying, she must have been really out of the loop if she thought everything was hunky dory with the National media??? Or maybe she was just thinking about having to give up fun stuff like traveling on OSU's dime to San Antonio, staying in a nice place, private box seats for the game... I would be upset, too.
And so I think AG will be the sacrificial lamb, giving up his job as a token. JT is safe, I'm not worried about that.
And having a female president is GREAT when you are being investigated by the NCAA!! She can make comments about de-emphasizing sports all she wants but fellas, she ain't gonna do anything to hurt the athletic department. This is not the Ivy League, this is big time sports. She might not admit this on camera but when it gets right down to it she is not going to get into a fight to the death with the athletic department because she would LOSE.
Ohio State has been about as pro-active as you can get with these violations and the NCAA will still be in love with them after camping out in C-Bus for a couple of months. You'll see.
While I like a lot of the stuff Geiger was saying, this is not the time to be combative with anyone. It'll pass, and then he can write a book. "MoC on the Brink"....
