Andy Geiger- Retired Athletic Director (Merged all relevant threads)

He was definitely going to retire when his contract ran out...he just pushed it up a little for whatever his personal reasons were. I think people are right about the loss of buffer, considering who the President of the University is, and how much influence she might have on the next AD hiring. When Gee left, it was curtains for Cooper...hopefully this will not be the same type of thing.

there goes JT's buffer.....
No, no, no. You've got to look deeper than that. There was NEVER a JT buffer. As a matter of fact, JT is VERY well respected by Holbrook and the trustees! There is a certain systematic approach to the young lives and academic careers JT uses that is well respected within the Administration. If anything, this will strengthen the communication between the Athletic Department and the Administration, including the Football Program. And don't misunderstand Holbrook...there's a bit of the tail wagging the dog and she FULLY understands what Football represents to the University and she won't be the one to Fuck with it.

Before all of this stuff hit the fan, I had a sleeper candidate for the next AD. A guy at Ohio State who had spent 21 years as an AD, although at the D III level.

It'll never happen now...but Dick Tressel spent 21 years as AD at Hamline University in Minnesota. In addition..."During his first three years at Ohio State, Tressel assisted in the day-to-day operations of the football program and was responsible for monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes on the football team. He also oversaw community relations." (Quote from OSU official bio.)

No way now they let two Tressels run the AD office and football program--ESPN would go nuts.

Lets get realistic here people....Geiger has simply had enough. Its that simple, it must be hard to come to work everyday and listen to people question your departments integrity.

Is Tressel in trouble? His 6-2 record in bowls and against SCUM virtually makes him untouchable unless the NCAA finds something directly linking him with the allegations, which to me is 0% chance of that because that is not who Tressel is, ask anyone who has had a chance to talk to him.

At this point in this whole saga, we need a AD who will not stop until all of these allegations are disproven or proven and Geiger said he just didnt have the passion that he needs, to me....this whole MOC thing really took the wind out of his sails so to speak.

I would also like to make a comment to all the posters who fear Holebrook.......she will not go up against the athletic department, that would be her down fall, the board of trustees, regardless of what they say, know in their minds that its all about money and OSU is big time athletics. Unless the boosters quit contributing money, she will not fire Tressel. She would hang herself and she knows it.

When Gee left, it was curtains for Cooper...hopefully this will not be the same type of thing.
no offense bucklion, but Coop was fired for one reason......always choked vs SCUM..that was the bottom line on that.

Finally, I would like to say thanks for Mr. Geiger for everything you have done for OSU since 1994 and thank you for bringing Coach T in and standing up to a biased media and unfounded allegations to this point.

this really sucks. im fairly pissed about this announcement.

i truely hope that espin comes to columbus for the texas game now. however, i hope they leave herbie and corso at home and send mark and trev in their places. nothing like a good old fashioned lynchin to spur on a home win!

seriously though, couple this announcement with everything that has been going on... i don't see how we could bring espin back to columbus in all consciousness. to call the environment "hostile" is about as gross an understatement as one can make. an all out apology from espin may not be able to sooth the rage at this point.
Let them come, let them set up their little show. The FCC will not allow them to air anything they tape near tOSU crowd. I would seriously doubt that trev or mark would EVER show their face in columbus again.

My thoughts exactly. Anytime a new AD comes in they want to bring in their own people. I would say this would be more true than ever now considering the type of person Holbrook would hire, the Moc crap, and the Troy Smith thing.

I hope these fuckers at espn are watching this. The Man was crying at the beginning of the press conference before getting into the meat of what He wanted to say.

I hope the those fuckers at ESPN can sleep at night

No offense taken bucknuts44820, but I think you missed my point a little. I know Cooper was fired for losing to scUM, bowl games, and a perceived lack of control and discipline, but that was evident before they finally fired him. Gee was Cooper's biggest supporter, and while he was there, Cooper wasn't going anywhere, no matter what. Once he was gone, it opened the door to be able to fire him, because his "high-level buffer" was gone. That was my point. In a way, that buffer may have indirectly led to the final result, because if Cooper had been more on his toes from the beginning, he may have done better.

Spare us the sob story, pal. You are in a position of great power and it comes with the territory. Think what you have gone through is worse than what John Cooper or Ron Zook or another other big time coach has done through.

Fuck off, you scrawny-assed little immigrant quack. No AD deserves to be under the constant barrage of personal attack that Geiger has endured. Do you see any other AD in the country having his name dragged through the mud based surely on the sensationalized and unsubstantiated allegations of a bitter former player (a player, by the way, you have assailed since day one) and a certified psychotic ex-employee? John Cooper never had to face this kind of attack...ever. At least Cooper deserved what little criticism he faced, thanks to his stellar record against Michigan and in the bowls. Tell you what, when you get above the position of being a doctorb who does rectal exams on the midshift in a 3rd-rate clinic in that shithole called Pittsburgh, then you can talk about positions of great power. The only position you know is the bent over position.

If anyone would like to keep us filled in what is being said... I was hoping that 1460 online would carry the press conference but then I had to be subjected to whomever this moron is filling in for Dan Patrick... :smash:
