I have been training for the last year to run a record time in the Two Oceans half-marathon today. Mind you, a record time for me would be sub-two hours, but I was on target for a 1:45. In fact, I have been running my hill/ocean training runs of 10-15kms at about 5:15/km without any strain, so I figured I had it in the bag.
Then, ten days ago, I slipped on a wet floor in a freak accident and ripped the ligaments in my knee. All that work down the drain. Geez, gotta tell you guys it was a very hard day today, seeing the TV helicopters and watching the race pass 500 yards from my house. I think about 30,000 ran today and my string of runs for the fifties is now broken. Real crap.:(
I start with a physiotherapist on Tuesday. I'm sure I'll be able to run next year. But, geez, this really sucks and gives me an appreciation for what some of our running backs have gone through in recent years.
