And then disappointment set in....

I have been training for the last year to run a record time in the Two Oceans half-marathon today. Mind you, a record time for me would be sub-two hours, but I was on target for a 1:45. In fact, I have been running my hill/ocean training runs of 10-15kms at about 5:15/km without any strain, so I figured I had it in the bag.

Then, ten days ago, I slipped on a wet floor in a freak accident and ripped the ligaments in my knee. All that work down the drain. Geez, gotta tell you guys it was a very hard day today, seeing the TV helicopters and watching the race pass 500 yards from my house. I think about 30,000 ran today and my string of runs for the fifties is now broken. Real crap.:(

I start with a physiotherapist on Tuesday. I'm sure I'll be able to run next year. But, geez, this really sucks and gives me an appreciation for what some of our running backs have gone through in recent years.

damn Steve... I'm sorry to hear that. Keep your head up. If it makes you feel better you could go and trip some of the runners or even give them hot coffee instead of water (ala Seinfeld)... it may make you feel better

Thanks folks. Felt better just saying it, if you know what I mean.

Wow, BB73, that's the view from my office, allright, and I'll be there tomorrow, working. Took the last two days off feeling sorry for myself and now I have to make up for it as soon as we get through the Easter bunny thing with the little one.

At least I can hop well  .

Ouch.:(

Been there my friend. Just be as dedicated to rehab as you are about training and you should be fine. Just pay attention to the signals your body is sending.

Yes, I've already told the wife that my doctor says its still important to keep my heart working at training level at least half an hour a day! I'm not sure if I'm relaying everything exactly 100% correctly  , but this is medicine and its important to comply!

Whoa, sorry to hear about the injury and missing the race. I've done the last three Tinmans (1/4 IM) and am about a month into training for the next Tinman coming up in July, so I can only imagine how much it would suck to not be able to do the race after all the training. Best of luck, and keep the cardio work going as your knee recovers.

Steve, seeing as though you are one of the rugby team's biggest supporters I was bummed to read about your knee. Keep your spirits up and trust that you will be healed and stronger when the time comes next year.

I'm sure I'm butchering this but...gaaf geluk, my vriend!
