An unlikely dream ( Ohio State football based )

I'm not sure if you're aware but tryouts have already taken place. They usually hold them a couple weeks after the bowl game in late January. Last year when I tried out it was on the 18th. This year it was on the 20th. There may be another one in the spring but it's not as well known or discussed. As for the prospects of making it. It all depends on the year you tryout and what positions they need. Last year when I tried out, the field was pretty thick and they weren't taking too many (mostly because of the renovation of WHAC they don't have room). I believe there were 52 of us and they only took 7. No true receivers (what I tried out for) unfortunetly. Last year they were looking for linebackers and safties after the departure of our backers, whitner and salley. This year I was unable to try out do to my Air Force requirements but the field was much weaker. This year they took a kid who ran a 4.75 at WR. Last year I ran a 4.6 flat and there were at least three guys faster than me. If you are going to try in the spring make sure you get in contact with the football office and make sure you know when it is. You're going to need an up to date physical and you have to be enrolled at OSU with all your fees paid. At tryout be ready to run-2 40s, 2 agilities, rep out 225 on the bench, 45lb plate calesthetics, and 10 gassers to round it out. Start training and good luck.

Hey, give it a fling. I probably could have wrestled or played football at a few different schools, but I couldn't bring myself to go anywhere else. I didn't even return coaches' phone calls. Went to tOSU and figured out that sports weren't everything. I doubt if it would have been so clear if I hadn't been used as a throwing dummy every day at wrestling practice.
Face it head on with no regrets. That's all the way from Europe.

2 words. PERSONAL TRAINER. If you want to take on a challenge like this, you're going to need top notch advice in every aspect of physical fitness. Speed, muscle mass, agility...you have plenty of work ahead of you. These guys you're wanting to play with have a massive hear start...which I'm sure you know. Regardless, it would take me 3-4 pages of typing just to try to give you an introduction as to what you need to do to prepare for a goal of this magnitude. I trained high school athletes...so my advice is fairly legit.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. Don't waste your money on a personal trainer...you either have it by now or you don't.

Go down to the next tOSU Rugby practice and see if you can even handle contact...if you can handle a Rugby practice, you will do fine in football.

...or get a motorcycle helmet and run as fast as you can into a brick wall...if you get up, do it again wearing a blindfold. Imagine that happening over and over on a daily basis...if that still seems appealing, go for it.

We are always looking for new tackling dummies...

Spring conditioning is going on as we speak...outdoor practice doesn't start for a few weeks. Come on down and see what it's all about...trying to hack it through a week of rugby practice will give you an idea if you are even remotely ready for the rigor of collegiate football.

No offense, but if you struggled with high school academics with only school work alone, then I have a hard time believing you could go straight into college and deal with that kind of workload, not to mention the added stresses and time committments of being a NCAA student-athlete.

Grades and responsibility are just as important as physical skills, probably more.

BTW, have you ever actually played organized football for a team?
