so were supposed to celebrate that in the best case only 16% of people are "obese" and we wonder why costs on so many things like healthcare are skyrocketing...

(i fully comprehend that obese may not always directly translate into fat, out of shape, unhealthy, etc)

Actually, no, it does not. Well obese by definition does but they use Body Mass Index to determine who's obese. If they use just height and weight(most likely do) then it is an inaccurate meter of health. For instance, a fairly muscular 5'9 guy will be overweight/obese even with minimal body fat.
