Not based the governments version of obese, the BMI.
In fact, at 6' 1" and 228 pounds, Beanie is considered "obese." I am not going to tell him...
For every Beanie Wells, I'll show you at least 100 John Pinettes.

The outcome of a sedentary lifestyle while consuming the FDA's carb suggestion.
It's gotta be something in the food people eat because although a sedentary lifestyle will do it I know several people who have really ballooned over that ten or so years and as far as I can tell their lifestyles haven't really changed much. Carbs will do it though. I monitor my weight very closely even though I'm not heavy at all, between 170-175, it's something I've always done. If I eat Italian food for dinner with lots of bread and pasta I'll be 3-5 heavier than normal the next morning. Of course it goes away when I return to my regular diet but that right there says a lot.

Yup. When it's recommend that the bulk of your comsumption come from grains and the processed ends thereof; then you're going to have obese people.

I wonder what percentage of those pounds were funded by taxpayers via food stamps and other assorted welfare programs?

Dammit Jake, when we finally move to the Obama Soylent Green program, you'll be thanking me for those fatty inducing food stamp and welfare programs..

I'm 6' 1'' and 225 lbs, so I'm no ballerina, and I do have a few pounds to lose. That being said, every time I go to the supermarket, I'm more than a little interested in what people buy. Whenever I see an older couple (70s) who look healthy, I am curious to see what they eat. Same thing when I see the morbidly obese.

The common factor from my less than scientific research is that the obese buy microwave-ready foods, diet pop, and lots of different items that are ready to serve-hot pockets, tv dinners, etc.

The healthy types buy food in its most simple form-veggies, fruits, meat, and dairy. They rarely have any items with a label or brand name. I've been eating like this for the last three years or so, and I feel so much better without the sodium and preservatives.

Sorry to sound like Jamie Oliver's food revolution, but if people could put their fucking cell phones down for long enough to cook a decent dinner, we'd be in much better shape as a society.
