Per Matt Parker, Larry Johnson has been in steady contact with Florida commit Amaris Williams according to his sources.

Listed at 6-3 270 but Florida has recruited him as an edge player.

Would be great to get this flip, really good player and I think we would be recruiting him on the edge as well with the DT position likely set with Scott and Mensah. Add this kid to Houston and I am way less concerned about DE...no idea how realistic that is but hopefully the interest keeps growing.

I had to double check to make sure I was watching the right tape. The majority of his reps were carrying the ball and he looked like a legit RB prospect at first. He’s not 270 at all, but he’s athletic as heck and looks like he would be a good addition if there’s a chance.

OSU just offered.
UF is nervous that LJsr could flip Williams. Visit could be set up for the Ped St game. But nothing set in stone

From Rivals' Adam Friedman:
"Williams is an exceptional athlete and his potential is through the roof. He is every bit the 6-foot-3, 270-pounds he is listed at and he carries very little bad weight. Williams has been clocked at 4.6 in the 40 yard dash and routinely took carries at running back last season as well as playing multiple positions across the defensive front. As a defensive end, he has a ways to go to before his hand techniques are where they need to be but he is so physically gifted that he's able to beat most offensive linemen using just his speed and strength. The fact that he is so dominant at this stage in his development with so much still learn should be really encouraging for college coaches."

Please make this happen LJ Sr. Amaris is just a specimen, got to watch his film in its entirety and man is he impressive. I will throw out my comp and people will probably laugh, but he reminds me of former great DE Nathan Williams. Crazy athletic, identical size almost (6'3 250 range), lightning first step off the line, nasty when he arrives to the ball, and he plays RB (not many people know Williams played RB full time, but I do because I had to tackle him every year and it sucked).

This kid is the perfect compliment to Houston and fits perfectly in the B1G as a defender. Fingers crossed we get this kid to Columbus.

AMARIS WILLIAMS

Williams got offered by Ohio State earlier this week, but he’s been on Larry Johnson’s radar long before that. OSU has been aggressive in its pursuit of the four-star Florida commit, but a visit is likely needed before we can declare that Williams is on flip watch. The Buckeyes aren’t the only one aggressively pursuing the North Carolina commitment, as Tennessee has also had contact with Williams in hopes of flipping him.

Steve Wiltfong on Williams:
If you're Florida, you are nervous about this visit. LJ and company recently offered, and this is a new opportunity for Amaris that he didn't have when he originally committed.

Florida is sensing the threat. They sent coaches to Amaris's school, and are trying to get him back for another home game after this visit.

The interest is real, and we will see the kind of weekend he has at Ohio State.

Found on 11W:
Interesting note - EDGE Amaris Williams's original commitment to Florida came as a total surprise to the Gator's staff.

Williams visited Florida for the first time in July and committed less than 24 hours after arriving. He had never even met any of the coaches face to face before. The staff was stunned.

Pretty much the definition of a rushed decision.

Amaris Williams mom raved about the visit and said her son loved it. The atmosphere, the people, how live the city is on game day and the support they receive. She said there’s been no other place like it. Said her son liked the strength and conditioning program the most and how NFL players still come back to train with Larry Johnson.

Above all that, it was defensive line coach Larry Johnson that impressed the most.
“Very well rounded,” Lachesta said. “Very family oriented. I spoke to a few workers and athletes and I was asking about his training program. There is a lot of NFL players that come back to train with him. With them being under so many different umbrellas making it to NFL level to come back to that one individual speaks volumes about his morals and values as a coach.
“I can really appreciate that when I’m sending my baby off to college.”

I would have Amaris on high flip alert...not ready to roll out the nanners yet, but close. Really like his build for DE and has the look on his face of a stone-cold killer at DE. Really needs to be a top priority to add to go with Houston (and I am sure he is).
