After looking at the replay, I'd say it popped most of the way, but not all of the way out, which would explain why there's no blood. But it was painful to watch.

His status is still uncertain for the tournament. He's supposed to be seen by a specialist today or tomorrow.

Ray cleared to participate in non-contact drills

March 12, 2006

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Villanova guard Allan Ray was cleared to participate in non-contact basketball drills Sunday, two days after he was hit in the right eye at the Big East tournament.

Villanova spokesman Mike Sheridan said Ray was scheduled to be examined again on Monday by an eye specialist with the full anticipation that he will receive medical clearance to resume basketball activities later this week.

It was not immediately known if Ray will be available for the No. 2 Wildcats' first NCAA tournament game this week.

"Obviously Allan is very fortunate to have come through a potentially dangerous injury with these positive results," coach Jay Wright said.

Ray, a first-team all-Big East selection and Villanova's second-leading scorer and rebounder, was hit in the right eye early in the second half of Friday night's semifinal loss to Pittsburgh. He was taken to a hospital. He saw an eye special on Saturday who confirmed that Ray sustained a "soft tissue injury."

That was crazy-it reminded me of a cartoon, or a special effect. I've certainly never seen anything like that before-more bizarre than gross. I heard he didn't get vision back until 11 that evening or something like that. Did his eye need to be popped back in, and did it fall back into the socket-couldn't really tell from the video.

Sort of like this?

In all seriousness though I'm glad to see he was cleared to play in the tournament. I hate to see that happen to a player.
