Don't bother clicking the included link - there are no Buckeyes on either the first or second team.

These are the "analytics" guys that the jackasses in Berea follow so slavishly. No wonder the Browns are in the midst of an 0-16 season.

SB Nation's All American Team

Pat Elflein and Malik Hooker made first team.

Raekwon McMillan was 4th among linebackers; Cameron Johnston was third among punters.

Ohio State vs Michigan was the Game of the Year.

GIF of the year was this:

Buckeyes center Pat Elflein, H-back Curtis Samuel and safety Malik Hooker were all named first-team All-Americans by The Sporting News on Wednesday. Ohio State plants trees in Buckeye Grove for any player named to a reputable first-team All-America list.

More teams will be revealed this week, but Elflein, Samuel and Hooker have already claimed their trees.

The Sporting News had offensive lineman Billy Price and linebacker Raekwon McMillan on its second-team list.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Pat Elflein's decision to return to Ohio State for a fifth season has paid off in multiple ways, and Malik Hooker needed one year as a starter to become a college football star.

Both Eflein and Hooker were named first-team All-Americans by the Associated Press on Monday, meaning both are considered consensus All-Americans by the NCAA.

To be considered a consensus All-American, a player must appear on three of the first-team All-America lists from the following groups: The Sporting News, the Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association.

2016 AFCA All American Team

Elflein, Price, and Hooker make first team.

McMillan makes second team.

Elflein and Hooker become unanimous All Americans (AFCA, FWAA, AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News).

Elflein, Hooker, Samuel, and Price earn trees in the Buckeye Grove for being named first team by one of the five selectors named above.

If the America Football Coaches select Elflein and Hooker they will be consensus All-Americans.

Minor correction: Elflein & Hooker were already consensus AA, now they are unanimous AA with the AFCA selection - the 28th and 29th unanimous All-Americans in Ohio State history.

The 'consensus' designation only requires being on a majority of the AA lists, so minimum three of the five.

The 'consensus' designation only requires being on a majority of the AA lists, so minimum three of the five.
Minor correction: If a player plays a position which is not recognized by one or more of the AA selectors (such as "all-purpose player"), then he can be named a consensus All American with less than three of five selectors voting him in.

For example, Curtis Samuel was first team "all-purpose player" in the AP and was not selected as either first or second team all-purpose player by the AFCA. Those are the only two of the five selectors naming an all-purpose player.

Samuel was also named first team "athlete" by Sporting News, which is similar designation to "all-purpose player".

Walter Camp uses the designation "kick returner" but has nothing similar to "all-purpose player" or "athlete".

FWAA uses the designations "kick returner" and "punt returner", but has nothing similar to "all-purpose player" or "athlete".

So, based on Samuel being named first team "all-purpose player" or "athlete" in two of the three selectors using those similar designations, he might be named a consensus All American at that position.

EDIT: This is from the NCAA on consensus All American selections: "To be named to the Consensus team, players have to be listed on the first team for more than half the All-America teams used in the compilation. If no player meets this criterion at a position, a player can be selected if named first team on at least two of the All-America teams. Second and third teams are used to break ties.... Each of the five teams has a different way of listing the returner or all-purpose player. For the purpose of the Consensus All-America team, those categories were treated as one position."

So, here is each selector's first team at the AP/KR position:

AP: Curtis Samuel
SN: Curtis Samuel
FWAA: Adoree Jackson/Quadree Henderson
AFCA: Adoree Jackson
WC: Quadree Henderson

So Samuel gets two of five selectors, while Jackson and Henderson get one-and-a-half each. Looks like Samuel is the consensus All American at the AP/KR position.
