A friend bought a disused farm in Morgan County and converted the loft to a music studio, back in the 1970s. I didn't know that they were leaders in the poverty stakes. I lived there for a year and it was truly like leaving civilization but the farmers seemed to be doing okay. Beautiful country and lots of good fishing in farm ponds. Can't say that the locals cared too much for hippies though:biggrin:

I've been to/through almost all of them at one time or another. The only areas I have missed are some of the far NW and far S/SE counties. Honestly, there is very little reason to go to places like Jackson or Mercer county unless you have friends/family there.

Mercer county has Ohio's largest inland lake, Grand Lake St. Marys. And St. Henry, home of Bobby Hoying, Jim Lachey, and Todd Boeckman

I think I was in Meigs County once. Maybe. My memory of that trip is kind of hazy. The room in which I stayed was pretty hazy, too.:pimp:

although i cant be sure, i think i have. I installed fence around cell phone towers for two+ yrs. i also did farm, split rail, and every other type of fence. i have been in the remote corners of the state, and starting from licking county (newark) you kinda have to travel through alot of them. but like i said, no way to be sure.

Same here. I travel through the state a lot with work. I'd say that if I haven't been through all 88 counties, there can't be many that I've missed. I could look at a map and try to figure it out. Maybe I'll do that, because I'm that bored at work right now.

That's blasphemy, you damn wolverine. :wink2:

I'd have to break out a map to see all the counties I have been too in Ohio. I know I have not done 88, but I have to have hit at least 60.
I object, respectfully. I may be an arrogant michigander, but I am no weasel. I love everythign that borders lake michigan, and the rest can be sold to canada. There are a few exceptions, but not enough.

As a newbie to Ohio, what are some of the more enjoyable counties you have been thru? (ie gorgeous outdoors, fun old towns, bizarre claims to fame)

I'm partial to NE Ohio as I grew up there. Stark County has the Football Hall of Fame, Cuyahoga County has the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and Summit County is where I grew up! Actually, the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area that runs from Cuyahoga to Summit is very nice. NE Ohio is no where near as flat as central and western OHIO. If you want to see a nice view of Lake Erie stay east of Cleveland. It won't be as nice as St. Joe's, but is more attractive than parts of the lake to the west of Ohio.

I'm biased againsted NE Ohio but you have every reason to feel oppositely :wink2:

sounds good, I'll have to check it out sometime. Mount Vernon started getting pretty hilly (that's as far NE as I've been other than on the turnpike), which I like having grown up in the Applachian Mtns in S Central PA. I'm more interested in the pretty lakes, waterfalls, rivers, little tucked away places. I realize I was pretty spoiled with the beaches in SW MI (St. Joseph) plus the UP & Traverse Bay for vacations.

A few years ago, I drove from Green Bay, WI through the UP to Torch Lake, MI (just south of Charlevoix) and it was without a doubt the most boring drive I have ever experienced....and I've driven through Nebraska and Iowa!!

Logan County, "Hocking Hills" (I think it's Logan.. It's just south of Lancaster (down 33 for about 45 minutes)) in the fall. If you hit it when the leaves turn, it's breathtaking (Well, if you're a homo)

Out in Coshocton there's Roscoe Village the name of which I forget, but it can be a neat little day trip. Take 161 East til you get to Roscoe Village.

Had a great time at the Darke Co. Fair this year. Cheap as fuck ($5.00), good eats.
