What's up, peeps?! I've got a question for you and am looking for some guidance. I've currently changed my diet to eat healthier and trim some poundage since the ol' playing days are over. However, I love to hang out with my pals and watch Buckeye games on Saturdays over a few drinks. Many times back then (since I've stopped trying to drink considering the extra 2000 calories per binge) over a course of the day I could put back about 15-20 over 12 hours. This isn't real good for the new diet. I'm wondering if any of you know what would be better to drink than beer that isn't going to be 100 calories a drink. One friend recommended vodka since I won't drink with them anymore, but that's about 110 per shot/drink (same as a beer). I told him that if I'm not buzzin' there no point in drinking at all. Maybe it's just better not to drink at all anyway. However, any helpful information you can provide is appreciated.

You're not going to lose weight if you drink alcohol in any appreciable quantity, no matter what variation (beer, wine, whiskey, vodka, tequila, rum, etc.) you choose. Trust me...been there, done that. If you really want to lose weight, you'll not drink alcohol, period.

Yup, your body will sit there and spend all it's time working off the carbs in the alcohol you drank.

Well I buzz myself twice a week and get hammered twice a week and seem to be holding on well, but I lift 3 times a week and have a 23 year old body. I fount the biggest problem with alcohol is how hungry you get afterwards. You didn't mention it but that's what I try and avoid

Sorry, but I have to chuckle when you young guys talk about what works and what doesn't. Things change. Metabolism changes. Ain't much you can do about it but change the way you eat and the amount of exercise you do.

When I graduated HS I was 6'0" and 135. Ate everything I could and didn't gain an ounce. I was able to do that til my late 20's. Now I am struggling to get under 200. You can look at all of us middle age guys waddling around and tell yourself it is because of a decision we made or a lack of will power but that isn't the way it works.

Mr. I is looking at the big 3-0 next year. Right on schedule.

Water.

Diet soda will kill you and everything else is empty calories - unless you want to sit around with your buds and suck on OJ (the juice that is, not The Juice)

Good article, O8CH. Thanks for the info boys. In college I could drink 5 nights a week and not gain a pound. Not so anymore. I'm realizing that the beer or whatever makes a big difference. So I'm going to stick with my plan of no booze for the most part (special occassions only). It is amazing how the body changes as you get older. No booze kind of sucks when the Bucks are losing, nothing to turn sorrows to.

I understand this, and is why I stated that I have a 23 year old body so that helps out quite a bit.

...and yes not drinking alcohol and drinking water can help tremendously, but most people are unwilling to give up drinking altogether.

And btw, diet soda is turning out to be a lot less bad for you than experts initially thought and is probably not going to kill you. To make things better, many brands are switching to Splenda (no longet Aspartame) like diet coke w/splenda and diet rite. I'll vouch for diet Rite having probably the best cols flavor of anything dies out there. Don't limit yourself to water Inc. unless you would prefer it that way because there are alternatives
