Major was an assistant at Ohio State under Matta from 2004-10 and, before that, at Xavier from 2001-04. He took over as the Charlotte head coach prior to the 2010-11 season and in four-plus seasons at the helm, Major was 67-70 as head coach of the 49ers. He stepped away from the position during the 2014-15 season due to health reasons.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If Alan Major ever gets the urge to get on a plane and help Ohio State basketball try to seal the deal on Gary Trent Jr. or any other recruit, he can't.

If Major ever wants to get on the floor with Keita Bates-Diop and work on some post moves, he can't do that either. At least not his current role.
but he can do the following
Major can talk basketball with players, spend time with them off the court. He'll be at games, and though he can't coach during the game, he can take notes and help players correct things during the week through film and discussion.
On the recruiting side of things, Major will be heavily involved in on-campus visits and helping put together the program's overall recruiting plan. Matta has had others in that role, using Chris Spartz and Kyle Davis as program's recruiting and operations coordinator in recent years.

Spartz has since left to start his own basketball training business, and Davis was announced as Ohio State's new video coordinator on Wednesday. So now those duties fall mostly under Major, who will still have some help from Davis.
