All Joe Paterno has done is coach 499 games while not even hinting at slowing down. All Gary Darnell has done is coach Western Michigan to a 46-46 record and serve as a high-level interim head man taking over at Florida in 1989 when Galen Hall got fired, and now, stepping in for a canned Dennis Franchione while Mike Sherman gets cozy in his new digs...

A Texas A&M yell leader, one of the uniformed male cheerleaders who organize the regimented cheers at A&M's Kyle Field, loosed a tasteless salvo at Thursday night's dual-school Alamo Bowl pep rally on the Riverwalk here that stunned hundreds of fans.
"Joe Paterno's on his deathbed! And someone needs to find him a casket!" screamed the unidentified yell leader over a microphone, first to gasps and then thunderous boos from the PSU fans. Neither audio nor video was immediately available. But Patriot-News photographer Joe Hermitt was there with many other media members who clearly heard the abrasive crack.
The man at the mike had been telling a convoluted fantasy story that was taking a long time and falling flat. Finally, PSU fans began booing and chanting "We are!..." At that point, the flustered yell leader fired back with his insult.

You think PSU fans will have the nerve to act outraged after all the PSU student antics this year?

5 Penn State players to miss Alamo Bowl
Two of the players charged with assault on connection with fight
SAN ANTONIO - Two Penn State players charged with assault in connection with a campus fight will miss the Alamo Bowl.
Saturday?s game against Texas A&M will be the second straight for the Nittany Lions without starting defensive tackle Chris Baker and backup linebacker Navorro Bowman, who also missed the regular-season finale Nov. 17 against Michigan State.
They are two of five Penn State defensive players who did not travel to San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO ? In sports, as in life, there is perception and there is truth.
Somewhere within both lies the story of the 2007 Penn State Nittany Lions football team, a squad with high expectations and meager results. A team that never quite found itself. A team with one more chance ? in tonight?s Alamo Bowl against Texas A&M ? to prove its talent can find a way to overcome another storied program?s talent.
Perception states that the Nittany Lions would be playing in a New Year?s Day bowl game, perhaps even a BCS bowl game, if quarterback Anthony Morelli and the offense had been more dynamic and less prone to making the critical mistakes.
Reality is, the Nittany Lions? fierce defense didn?t look so ferocious just as often as the offense looked timid.
